My Uncle Mike was a career military guy, married to my dad's sister, Aunt Debby. In the early 1970's they were stationed in Germany and always sent me the coolest Christmas gifts, this was one of them.

I found it today while sorting thru boxes in the attic.

After I'd been dating Heather for many years, someone made the realization that Debby's best friend Kelli, was Heather's sister!

Kelli's husband was Uncle Mike's best friend, and they were also stationed in Germany.

When Uncle Mike retired from the military, they re-located back here in Sheboygan, and he got a job at the chemical plant I worked at, on the same shift, and in the same department I was in at the time!? Everyone there called him Uncle Mike :-)

Making this entire story even more unbelievable, Debby and Mike fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning and operating a local tavern, that had miniature bowling lanes! The bar became the hangout for the guys at the chemical plant, and unfortunately, was also where Uncle Mike suffered a life ending medical emergency.

Frohe Weihnachten Uncle Mike!

My Uncle Oren came over for a visit one day. At the time he was the manager of S&C Camera Shop in Sheridan Village. I had been taking pictures for 5 years with some old Kodak cameras and B&W film. He sold me a Pax M2 35mm camera and this picture is from the first roll of slide film I took with that camera. Thanks, Uncle Oren, for getting me started in 35mm photography!

Mr. Gus and Pizza Steve seem a bit surprised by Uncle Grandpa's wardrobe.

In the early hours of the morning of the 28th August 1918 the 9th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers moved forward to their start line in front of the village of Hardecourt in the department of the Somme. The 1st Battalion of the Cambridgeshires was on their left and the 2nd Battalion the London Regiment was on their right. The battalion diary records that at 4.55am they:

"Attacked along whole Bgde. front under cover of our artillery and M.G. Barrage. Advance successful to a depth of 2000x & all objectives taken including the village of HARDECOURT."

But my Uncle Jim did not know that because he was one of the 153 casualties; he had been killed. He was eighteen years old and had been in France for three weeks, he had probably only joined the battalion with a new draft a few days earlier.

I am typing this at five o'clock on the morning of 28 August 2018 exactly one hundred years later.

This portrait was painted by my father in 1919, my grandfather made the oak frame.

i have no idea how many years he is, already, in Israel;

yet, i am willing to assume that though in many aspects immigrating to IL improved

his position; in many other it deteriorates it.

I wonder how he feels?

how much he feels this is his 'homeland'?

and how much he longs to Ethiopia, and feels outsider in Israel?

For years Jew used to pray

“Next year in Jerusalem”

Now, that his prayer became true is he pleased?

Often I thank my fortune that i did not have to immigrate.

Uncle Spook is a 12-year old cat I trapped as a feral kitten. A cat of great dignity.

Gordon six eyes lived in his parents basement until his six eyes became highly fashionable and his anger at the outside world had subsided to a level of extreme indifference. By the time it was safe for him to emerge from the cellar and experience the outside world, his brothers and sisters had all grown up and married. He now had many nieces and nephews, who loved their Uncle Six Eyes. They all marveled at his ability to move all six of his eyes in different directions at once. They wished they had six eyes, . . . instead of the boring, single eye they each had on their shiny, bald heads, . . .just like their parents.

roughly 5.75 x 6.25 inches. This would be Uncle Cletus. I actually thought about naming him after an uncle who reminds me of this guy but decided that would not be charitable. Accurate, though. I love those random take out containers that end up tossed by the dipsticks who toss litter from their cars on to the parkway in front of my house. I use gloves and clean up the containers and they are recycled. Like here. It's probably sick and wrong but so be it. The guy has a caterpillar for a mouth so how can the rest matter anyway?

Day 2 [1-2-2016]

Today was quite the do nothing day. I woke up rather late in the day and lingered in my lazy state for many hours after, taking pictures of whatever I saw. My aunt, uncle, and cousin arrived to spend the night with my family resulting in an amazing home cooked Italian dinner. Pretty nice relaxing day if you ask me.

Can't wait to see what the next day brings!
