Sorry to see Uncle Boons close, it was a hugely popular New York City Thai (that's Thai not thigh) restaurant known for their unbelievably spicey waits and dishes. Their Thai Diner is still up and running for take-out and delivery in lower Manhattan - Let's continue to support this talented couple who brought the City such a great restaurant.
Life is like a hurricaine... I decided to go with one of my favourites: uncle scrooge. It's modelled loosely after the title image of the german version of "uncle scrooger - his life and times" (www.nerd-supreme.de/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Disneys-On...)

I was traveling through Guilin, China and came across this nice Cormorant Fisherman. We got to talking and he convinced me that he was, in fact, my long-lost uncle Pepe. At first I did not believe him because:
1) I keep a strict count of the number of uncles I have
2) He is a different race and we share no common ancestry
3) He is as old as my grandpa
However, he made some very compelling points so I had to concede to his superior logic. It also turned out that he needed a small loan of $100,000 to start a new clothing line. He assured me spandex was making a comeback and he would pay me back within six months, so I lent him the money. I can’t say no to family!
This beauty was in my garden this afternoon. He wouldn't stop long enough for a decent pic so this is the best I got. It's the Oleander Moth or Polka-dot Wasp Moth. It's sometimes called the Uncle Sam moth because of its red, white and blue colors.
It is a day-flying moth that mimics a wasp in looks and movements to help fool potential predators. I have not seen the caterpillar of this one yet but they feed on Oleander and I do have some of that in my yard so I'm sure I'll find one around at some point!
This is the third old house in my series but I recently scanned more oldies. Last fall, I added this shot to the gallery of old Longmont family haunts for the family genealogy project. I got here after a load of the leaves already fell and there are dueling pumpkins. Some family landmarks are gone now that I am paying attention but I have more targets awaiting ideal days. At least this series of photos is already edited in a busy time and until I can immerse myself in more shooting and editing. I shot a more open view of the Uncle John Ernest Kiteley home at 529 Pratt Street in Longmont, Colorado, avoiding foliage that grew over the decades on my second pass. I have a family portrait in the front marked 1936 and baby sister pictures on the side. She was born in 1942. Was this his parent's house earlier? Was this the Kiteley family house in 1936? The portrait looks as though it might have been. More research awaits. This is closer to a family location than several other area scenes I already captured. I have several dated snaps of the place in the collection.
Slowly but surely I hammered nails into the project of gathering photos of the remaining family homes and other landmark haunts. Unfortunately, some of the homeless lit a fire in the old Golden West flour mill. If it weren't fenced off, I could get some dynamic compositions to shoot. Grandfather managed the mill and died in an accident on the belt elevator. I rode it a couple of times as a youngster and I bet OSHA was disgusted with them. It could have spit bodies out! Ah, after all, what's really dangerous to a kid. Certainly not that thing; panic makes for extreme care. I want to snap as many locations over time that still exist but I waited too long on the old mill. The pictures are the easy part of the genealogy.
This house was built in the bungalow style that was a national rage at the time and individually built, no others of it's type were nearby. There are few other homes of this style in Longmont. This shot required editing out cars and trash by the back fence but I found a way to cover them over.

There is no guilt here
There is no shame
No pointing fingers
There is no blame
What happened yesterday…has disappeared
The dirt has washed away
And now it's clear
There's only grace
There's only love
There's only mercy and believe me it's enough
Your sins are gone
Without a trace
And there's nothing left now
There's only grace
You're starting over now
Under the sun
You're stepping forward now
A new life has begun
Your new life has begun
An’ there's only grace
There's only love
There's only mercy and believe me…it's enough
Your sins are gone
Without a trace
And there's nothing left now
There's only grace…
And if you should fall again
Get back up, get back up
Reach out and take my hand
Get back up, get back up
Get back up again
Ohh…get…back…up…again…
There's only grace…
There's only love…
There's only mercy and believe me it's enough…it’s enough
Your sins are gone
Without a trace
And there's nothing left now
There's only…there’s only…grace…
There's only mercy and believe me it's enough…it’s enough
Your sins are gone
Without a trace
And there's nothing left now
There’s only…grace……
So get back up…get back up again…
Get back up again.

My late Uncle Stan Gray's 'Dagger Division' patch badges, dog tags, and medal ribbons. At least one of those patches and the dog tags saw duty in the Burmese jungle.

In 2001, Ron Bidwell, a signwriter by trade, together with his fellow "Letterheads" recreated vintage signs dating from 1895 to 1945 on local shop walls in Portland NSW. ‘Painting Portland’ was a project initiated by Ron Bidwell and completed during the Letterheads Wallnuts Weekend, in 2001. Thirty four signwriters travelled to Portland to work with locals to restore and reproduce advertising used in the early part of the 20th Century. Goanna Salve, Kinkara Tea, Bushell’s Tea, Mother’s Choice Flour, Uncle Toby’s Oats, Arnott’s Biscuits, Toohey’s Flag Ale, Solvol, Federal Safety Matches and Swagsman Blend Tea are a selection from the colourful Signs of Yesteryear
This is no doubt the brother of John Decker, who appears in a photo I recently posted. Both photos were taken by Masters & Skolds, Princeton, Illinois, circa 1910.
A probable match for these two brothers were Charles Decker, born December 18, 1885, and John Decker, born in August of 1893. They were from Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois.

The band's music is heavily influenced by the late 1960s when heavy metal was emerging. Allmusic praised the band's ability to recreate a particular aspect of this era, describing the band as "celebrating the Summer of Love's soul-chilling autumn: a blasted landscape, post-flower power, resembling Altamont's killing fields, reeking of the Manson Family murders, and, naturally, sounding like a mish-mash of all of the apocalyptic musical forces that converged upon that era.
