. . it is time to be confused about this plant. I think I have finally decided to my satisfaction that it is, indeed, the harmless "cow parsnip", but it certainly resembles the poisonous giant hogweed. Here's a comparative sheet that's really good, supplied to me by another Flickr member last year. Thank you, primaseadiva!

In the '70's, you were still allowed to dive into the pool at U.C.'s Strawberry Canyon. The upper pool, shown here, is now (2010) gone completely. It sprang a leak, and the University wouldn't spring to repair it.
