Bombay Hook, NWR in DE - Gabe and I had 13 different Snapping Turtles today. We have no idea what they were doing, but nice looks for us! We enjoyed this close one on one of the roads - from a safe distance.

This beautiful big turtle was evidently looking to make a nest and crawling across my outdoor riding arena.

This picture was taken on Geist Reservoir in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2011.

Preferring the seemingly rapid waters of the rivers in missouri, this species is seldom seen on land. And may be rarer than previously thought. This one had actually just finished burying her eggs.

This specimen was captured in a hoop trap set at ecology camp. It must have been an old individual as it pretty much lacked any amount of middorsal keeling.

American Turtles (terrapins) became popular as pets because of a cartoon series in the UK some years ago . The owners did not realise that they grew to the size of a dinner plate and lived for forty years. Many ended up being put in ponds were they are an alien species competing with the local wildlife.

This was a fiesty turtle!

The sea turtle is a very majestic creature. It can also be quite intimidating when you see one close up, and watch it use its powerful jaws to chew a huge clump of grass right in front of you. This was taken in Akumal in Mexico in a spot where people came to snorkel just to see the turtles. They were everywhere. The younger ones were a little skittish when you got close, but the older ones could really care less if you were nearby or not. This particular one let me dive down and hang out with him long enough to get plenty of good photos.

This hawksbill turtle was donated to the Herbert’s natural history collection in the 1980s.

Found this turtle while checking out a new bridge they are buiding on my road.

I think this is Graptemys geographica, Grant co WI, June 2012.
