This was one of the first Wood Turtles I have ever seen.

A beautiful softshell turtle in the Cascades. We have only seen them in the pond. A real treat to see one on dry land.

June evening at Lake Maria State Park, MN. See a painted turtle in the grass and get out to get a few photos and expect it to run off like most painted turtles do, but it didn't. It was digging in the ground a hole and thought it was strange and then the first egg popped into the hole and watched her drop 8 eggs into the hole and then covered the hole and walked back to the lake.

Day 7 - Norman Island Snorkeling - Virgin Islands Vacation ~

Box turtles live a long time and are very vulnerable to getting run over and having humans carry them away and release them in unfamiliar territory where they're unlikely to survive.

One morning while looking for Mexican Hog nosed snakes six of these Ornate Box Turtles were seen crossing the road. These are a protected species in Arizona and always fun to see.

The highlight of anyone's trip to Hawaii a swimming encounter with a sea turtle. I was fortunate to have this encounter with 5 feeding turtles on a rocky point near the beach. Box Turtles are reasonably common where I live. Their high-domed shells can be seen wandering through the forest, yards and far too often on the roads. But these turtles are decades old. Their replacement generation is not to be found -- a casualty of too much human development. Seeing an adult is always enjoyable -- but really not noteworthy. Finding a nestling box turtle is a rare and special experience. Still covered in the dirt from the egg nest this baby is not as photogenic as a heron or eagle -- but still ranks high on my photographic list. It is a small hope for a dying population. Went on the turtle watching trip where they tempted them in with crabs on a line.

In my mums garden's pont there are turtles. They don't want to be photographed, but this one stood very still for ones

This turtle was found in the middle of the road in a tiny town called Marshall. Sara and I rescued him and put him in the grass so he wouldn't be hit.

Terrapene carolina carolina (Emydidae) New World Pond Turtles Distribution: Terrapene carolina carolina may be found along the eastern seaboard from southern Maine to southern Georgia, and west to the Mississippi River. Habitat: old field habitats and deciduous forests, but they may also be found in wet meadows and swamps. It is a terrestrial turtle, but it seems to select habitat that is not far from water.

I think it’s the last bit of the yolk sac that nourished the embryo as it grew in the egg. When turtles hatch, the last smidgeon of the yolk sac continues to provide nutrients to the hatchling and is totally absorbed in a few days

Turtle on a skin dive. Yes i was this close when i took the shot, no zoom required; and No, i did NOT attempt touch it... i'm an animal lover too.

This turtle would come up on the beach every afternoon
