A pair of Northern Map Turtles bask on a log jam on a cool September afternoon in northern Michigan. This species is sexually dimorphic, the female to the left is easy to distinguish from the male on the right.
This guy was slowly crossing State Line, trying to get to Missouri . Apparently this is a Western Painted Turtle

It's time for the snapping turtles and painted turtles to lay their eggs. Everyday we see turtles on or near the bridge by our house. Several of the nests have already been dug up by marauding critters at night, possibly raccoons. There have been as many as 5 turtles looking for a nesting site at one time.
Oddball found another turtle in the yard except this is a (little) snapping turtle instead of the usual red-eared slider. When my dad went to take him to the back of our property, he was already going back on his own.
I'm just glad it's he wasn't the gigantic alligator snapping turtle who found his way into our yard by our dogs and tried to bite my dad a few years ago.
This photo was modified from its original state through the use of the Orton Effect. This effect through use of blurring and exposure settings creates a dreamlike photo.
This small Box Turtle was behind my house. I will hope that I see it often. I often wonder what happened to the babies that hatched from my garden. Maybe this is one of them?
