Founded in 1894, the Lyons Turning Mill in Quincy, MA used lathe-like machinery to turn large single pieces of granite into polished columns. Columns used in Boston’s Custom House were manufactured here. This is the remnant of the mill located near the Granite Links Golf Course in the heart of what used to be Quincy’s quarries. There is a preservation effort under way for the site which is also the proposed location for a future Quincy Quarry and Granite Workers Museum www.quincyquarrymuseum.org/

The motion turning over and steam issuing from the cylinder drain cocks. The regulator wouldn't seal shut so the only way to control things was by using the reverser. to move between forward, mid-gear and reverse. One of the jobs will be to lap in the regulator block again.
