Opened in 1931, the Canadian National Railway (CNR) steel truss swing span railway bridge over the north arm of the Fraser River in Metro Vancouver links Burnaby with Richmond and the south arm Vancouver Fraser Port Authority facilities on Lulu Island.
VRS train 263 crosses the Black River on a very nice Sunday morning. My 0300 start for this particular excursion to the GMRC was a little early but the crisp red leader was worth it. As for the bridge I can definitively say it was built in 1897, but that's about the extent of it :)

Merseyrail class 508 unit 508139 stands at the 3rd rail electrified platform in Chester with the 4.45pm service to Hooton (2H44).
I framed the shot to include the steelwork and roof detail of this Victorian structure, particularly where it transitions. It was only a matter of time before a passenger turned up.
The unit will eventually shuttle back as the 5.12pm ex Hooton (2C46). The trains from here more typically run along the Wirral to Birkenhead, Liverpool and return, but if memory serves me right there was a restricted service due to track replacement work in the Mersey tunnel.

As I wandered around this bridge trying to find an appealing composition last Fall, a nearby resident came out of his house and struck up a conversation. He explained that locals call it the Wedding Bridge due to frequent visits by photographers and their matrimonial entourages - although the actual name is Arranvale Bridge. It wasn't overtly picturesque on the gloomy day we drove by but converting it to black and white gave it a bit more interest to my eye. The engineers in the crowd will recognize it as a rivet connected warren pony truss.

Built in 1900 for the Rock Island, the 4 span through truss bridge at Booneville would not make it beyond it's 120th birthday. The signs of what to come are visible in this 2019 view of the bridge. Eastbound manifest CBBI rolls across the span as the foreground has been cleared in preparation for the construction of a new deck girder bridge. By mid 2020 the new bridge was in service and the old span cut up.

Just a simple seed part build for a LUG challenge. Rather than one weird or obscure seed part, the challenge here was to make a small architectural build using some common pieces: at least 1x blue 2 x 4 brick, 2x black 4L bars, and 2x light bluish gray small antenna base with black lever.
The blue 2 x 4 bricks were turned sideways and used as a small water feature. 20 black 4L bars were used as columns at the base of the tower, using a technique where they're placed in the negative space between two vertical clips to fit 20 of them down there. The levers were used in two ways: 48 of them make up the trusses, wedged between grill tiles and the undersides of plates, and 4 more are used with bases on both ends to support the rooftop dish.
My first pass at this was way too bland with a lot of light and dark gray, so I decided to build it with NO gray (except for the seed part) instead.

D&S 476 storms out of Durango, CO with the first morning train bound for Silverton. The train is crossing over the Animas River on a steel through truss bridge, still in its original condition.
Spring Valley, IL five-span through truss bridge on IL Rt 89 spanning the Illinois River. This two lane highway bridge was constructed in 1934. The longest span (center) is 364 ft, overall length 1,775.1 ft.
Unfortunately, this beautiful riveted iron bridge is scheduled to be replace. Get your pictures now.

After having sat in Greenfield west of CPF385 for over an hour Pan Am Southern train 16R (NS East Binghamton, NY yard to PAS Ayer, MA yard) has finally started down toward East Deerfield yard to start their work. The standard SD60E 6971 (EMD SD60 originally blt. Jan. 1985 as NS 6568 and rebuilt at Juniata shop) leader with a pair of GEs are approaching CPF384 as they cross the large deck truss bridge over the Deerfield River. wh
The short span the head end is on top of crosses over the abandoned New Haven Turners Falls Branch that passed to the B&M and survived in service until the early 1980s. This little branch was reached by a short steep connection that once existed just to the left between the end of the bridge and the still in service switch to the loop track. And while the rails are but a memory the right of way and three span ex New Haven truss bridge over the Connecticut River survive as a very nice paved bike and walking trail.

Now a sight along the Milwaukee's third ward river walk, this movable truss swing bridge was constructed in 1915 so Chicago & Northwestern twin cities 400 passenger trains could cross the Milwaukee river. The train line was called the twin cities 400 based on the trains being able to cross from St. Paul to Chicago in 396 minutes. This bridge is currently non-functional and permanently parked in the open position.
