We sure get our money's worth in this Mustang trunk. It's a whole lot bigger than you would guess from outside the car. The crutch is because Margie is up for a hip replacement pretty soon.
This was my entry for "Trunk" I had so much fun photographing the elephant and finding out that they have eyelashes!

Middle Fork (Cascades)
2015
reclaimed old-growth western red cedar
Courtesy of John Grade
"To commemorate the Renwick's reopening, Grade selected a hemlock tree in the Cascade Mountains east of Seattle that is approximately 150 years old – the same age as this building. His team created a full plaster cast of the tree (without harming it), then used the cast as a mold to build a new tree out of a half-million segments of reclaimed cedar. Hundreds of volunteers assisted Grade, hand carving each piece to match the contours of the original tree. After the exhibition closes, Middle Fork (Cascades) will be carried back to the hemlock's location and left on the forest floor, where it will gradually return to the earth. Grade's second tree, Middle Fork (Arctic), is on view downstairs in the Palm Court."

Trunk is 9 3/4" wide, 7 1/2" tall and 7 1/2" deep. It is covered in brown leather after applying wall compound over the staples to smooth them out. The "wood strips" are made by cutting round weatherstripping foam in half, gluing it to the trunk, then coating it with multiple coats of craft glue, several coats of tan acrylic paint, a couple of coats of brown acrylic glaze and finally a few more coats of white glue as a sealer. Add hardware and paint the HP on the end and it's done!
