From Old and New London, published about 1880. The tollhouse is a booth. beasts being brought down to Smithfield drinking at the large trough
The trough is actually a urnial from Sloppy Joe's Bar. The famous seven and eight toed cats on the Hemingway property either drink from the trough or stand on it and lick the water running down the big jar.
The normal cat has 18 toes (five on each front foot and four on the rear) found on most cats, polydacts have six or more toes on the front feet, and sometimes an extra toe on the rear. The cats living here have been given the nickname "Hemingway Cats.”

Leighton Road, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.
Across the road you can just see a corner of the old Morgan and Company factory of 1878. This has since been replaced by the Tesco car park.
