-It was built at the Douglas factory in Sanat Monica, California. It is one of 159 C-53Ds and was delivered to AAF on July 7, 1943.
It was assigned to the 434th Troop Carrier Group and was stationed at various locations (Alliance Field, NE, Baer Field, IN, Fullbeck, UK, and Welford Park, UK) before arriving at Royal Air Force (RAF) Aldermaston, UK in march 1944.
The 434th TCG consisted of HQ and the 71st to 74th Squadrons. Aircraft 830 was assigned to the 72nd Squadron (CU). The group's D-Day mission was to tow gliders carrying reinforcements to 101st Division troops who had been dropped earlier in the night near Utah Beach.
At 0119, June 6, 1944, 52 of the Group's planes, each towing a Waco glider, took off from RAF Aldermaston Airfield for Normandy. Aircraft 830 flew three missions on D-Day and the next day.
While in the ETO it participated in the D-Day invasion, Market garden in Holland, the re-supply of Bastogne and the crossing of the Rhine. It also flew various support missions and wounded evacuations to England.

-On 6 June 2019, for the 75th anniversary and as part of the commemorations of D-Day landings, a flight of 21 Dakotas carrying paratrooper re-enactors flew from Duxford in England to Sannerville in Normandy. This was one of the largest, perhaps the largest, gatherings of C-47/DC-3/Dakota aircraft for over 75 years.

The declaration of independence of 1830, which imposed an everlasting neutrality on Belgium, radically changed the military situation. A defensive system now had to be developed that could exist on its own without the help of the Allies. In the elaboration of this system, two schools faced each other: on the one hand the proponents of the old system with a defense at the borders and separate defenses of the different cities; on the other hand, the proponents of a concentration of troops at a certain point that could be firmly held and from which the area could be recaptured. However, the first view brought difficulties. It was impossible to keep up with an army on peace and, moreover, the defense budget from 1836 to 1849 had been reduced from 48.5 million to 26.5 million. These two considerations favored the second view. The question then remained which center one would defend. Two cities were eligible for this: Antwerp and Brussels.

The movement which has demonstrated the most support and organization on the ground, Al-Shabab and Hizbul Islam have been excluded from the current political system being imposed by the United States on Somalia. The military in Ethiopia, supported and coordinated by the Americans, had occupied the country from December 2006 until January 2009. Uganda has sent troops who have come under fire by the Somali resistance.
(in Wikipédia)
Decimus Junius Brutus Callaicus
"Decimus Junius Brutus Callaicus was a Roman politician and general of the 2nd century BC. Brutus led the Roman legions in the conquest of western Iberia after the death of Viriathus, chieftain of the Lusitanians. In his conquest, he scored major victories in the south of modern Portugal, before going on to the north. He had the city of Olissipo (modern Lisbon) fortified and advanced to the north, destroying settlements as he went. A fortified position was established at Viseu, the Douro river was crossed and the Lima river was reached by 137 BC. Ultimately, according to Strabo, Brutus conquered the Minho River. At the end of Brutus' campaigns, Rome controlled the territory between the Douro and Minho rivers plus probable extensions along the coast and in the interior.
(...)
Amongst authors in Antiquity, the tiny Limia River between Northern Portugal and Galicia (Spain) was said to have the same properties of memory loss as the legendary Lethe River. In 138 BC, the Roman general Decimus Junius Brutus sought to dispose of the myth, as it impeded his military campaigns in the area. He was said to have crossed the Limia and then called his soldiers on the other side, one by one, by name. The soldiers, astonished that their general remembered their names, crossed the river as well without fear. This act proved that the Limia was not as dangerous as the local myths described." Hovdala is mentioned for the first time in 1130, but the presently visible castle complex began to be constructed during the early 16th century.[1] The date 1511 can be read on one of the façades. During this time, Scania was a part of Denmark.
The squire Magnus Rabek is mentioned in written sources as having owned the estate sometime before the Black Death. During the early 15th century, the estate belonged to a squire named Klement Skaldra. At the end of the century, the estate passed to the Laxmand family, who erected the oldest of the presently visible buildings. Through marriage it later passed to the Grubbe family. During the ownership of Sigvard Grubbe, an educated man who stood close to the king, Christian IV of Denmark, and who had studied in Wittenberg and Basel, the castle was besieged twice by Swedish troops during the Kalmar War. The castle withstood the sieges.
After the death of Sigvard Grubbe, the castle passed between different owners until it became the property of Jens Mikkelsen, an officer in the Danish army, in 1651. After the conquest of Scania by Sweden in 1658, he changed his allegiance and instead joined the Swedish army. When the two countries again were involved in fighting during the Scanian War, the castle was assaulted, pillaged and burnt by pro-Danish guerilla fighters on 7 August 1678.
Mikkelsen however survived the ordeal and was later ennobled by the Swedish king, and took the name Ehrenborg. The castle thenceforth stayed in the Ehrenborg family until 1944, when it was expropriated by the Swedish state. The last owners were however allowed to keep living in the castle and did not move out until 1981.
From 1944, the former land of the estate was used as a military training field Today the land belongs to Hässleholm municipality.
A renovation of the castle was initiated in 1993. In 2004, renovation project was awarded the Europa Nostra award for "sensitive and intelligent restoration work."

The Bailey Dolls were originally formed in Australia by three performing artists in 2010. Their shared a love of bygone eras and big movie musicals from the 1940's and 50's led them to embrace music made famous by the Andrews Sisters, The Boswell Sisters, Glen Miller and more! To set the Dolls apart from other Vintage singing Trios they established their own interpratation of the “golden era of Hollywood' and their shows continue to delight audiences today ( thanks to Jeff Wharton for photo of singers

The lower part of the city near the ocean inlet, tons of room to build a little fgishing community. Put a cool windmill up on the hill,
This image may be one of the ten images I will submit as part of my CPAGB panel.
Scoring is quite complicated with 6 judges able to score between 2 and 5 each so an image can score anywhere between 12 and 30 points. In order to pass, I need a minimum of 200 points out of 300.
Judging day is 4th December in Carlisle, UK. I know this image has appeared on Flickr in one form or another but I wanted to show the whole batch of 10 images that may appear in my panel as a set.
Rather than comment on the individual images, you can view the whole set here then comment on the whole set here

The United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) was a United Nations peacekeeping operation in Cambodia in 1992–93. It was also the first occasion on which the UN had taken over the administration of an independent state, organized and run an election (as opposed to monitoring or supervising), had its own radio station and jail, and been responsible for promoting and safeguarding human rights at the national Level.
