Trick or Treat - While looking for Bobcats, this juvenile Cooper's Hawk flew right into a small Ginkgo in front of me - only about 10-15 feet away. Unlike the adults, the juveniles are very confiding and I had many backgrounds to choose from. I ended up choosing the yellow fall background.
Despite the proximity and lighting, I found it a challenge to get sharp images of this scene. For some reason, the mottled white and brown patterning of subjects such as this juvenile Cooper's Hawk and Burrowing Owl have caused problems with autofocus/sharpness for me over the years. I wonder if the mix of the brown and white causes some sort of shimmer effect which affects the contrast detection of the camera autofocus system. In any case I was treated with a few usable frames.

Running Eagle Falls, also called "Trick Falls" in Glacier National Park, MT. It got the nickname, Trick Falls because in the spring when there is more volume of water it flows over the top and hides the lower falls. This lower falls runs under a sink hole and appears to flow through the rocks making for a pretty unique waterfall.
