Nightlights are fun to shoot - particularly in this ski resort, where they've created a winter wonderland of light and color. The trick for me was a) to avoid frostbitten fingers while handling the camera, b) to catch a scene without hordes of people walking through it, and c) to expose for the different light intensities. I was fortunate with this moment and liked the way the purple lights illuminated the foreground.

Happy Macro Monday.
Trick or treat.
My Mother died in 1996 and she was quite the seamstress. She made this little gem for one of the boys way back when ever. It is 1 1/2 inches in diameter and has a pin on the back and you can pin on your clothing at Halloween. Always makes me smile........
The Harvest Moon glows round and bold, in pumpkin shades outlined in gold, illuminating eerie forms, unnatural as a candied corn. Beware what dare crawls up your sleeve, for 'tis the night called Hallows Eve.
Thanks, I'll take the treat...
...such as these Progress Rail (EMDX) SD70ACe-T4 leasers on the KCS MVNKC at Godfrey, IL. Thanks to a timely FRA waiver, their lack of PTC won't keep them in trail or DPU service.
This was a lucky grab that required some distance driving. After leaving an eye appointment near my home base, I headed back downtown to use up the rest of my excused absence from work. A chance snippet of radio traffic led me to believe that these units, which came in after dark on yesterday's MKCVN, were on their way out of town. A maintenance issue kept this train at about 25 mph until the second unit was placed on line, affording me a chance to get ahead of it. Hope this becomes a regular occurrence.
