Despite some reported local declines, still very common in parts of southeast, and has expanded range northward during the 20th century. In recent decades has nested at many new localities farther north and inland.
FamilyHerons, Egrets, Bitterns
Habitat is Marshes, swamps, streams, shores. Mainly in waters of coastal lowlands. In breeding season usually near salt water, on shallow, sheltered estuaries and bays, tidal marshes, mangrove swamps. Also locally inland around freshwater marshes, lakes, rivers. Nests in colonies in trees, mangroves, or scrub near water.
Forages in shallow water by standing still and waiting for prey to approach, or by walking very slowly; sometimes more active, stirring bottom sediments with one foot, or dashing in pursuit of schools of fish. Solitary in foraging, driving away others from small "feeding territory."

Wie auch bei der Hinleistung zeigte sich der Sonnengott bei der Rückleistung der TRI-Garnitur gnädig.
Während alles andere den Wolken zum Opfer fiel, konnte der Zug bei Unterthalhofen fotografieret werden.

Tri-Colored Heron on the edge of the mangroves.
From Florida Hikes:
This distinctive white-bellied blue heron is generally known as the tricolored heron.
It is similar in size and shape to the little blue heron, which is all blue, but is taller.
It is one of the more common herons to come across in Florida marshes.
A tri-colored heron during mating season.
During the breeding season, the tricolored heron has a blue bill with black tip and pink legs.
PS - their legs are a shade of yellow outside of mating season.

My first time seeing this Bird fairly close. He was feeding near to where we had taken up a position. From all the reference pictures, I think this is a Tri-Color Heron.

Het jaar 2025 werd afgetrapt met eindelijk weer eens wat zonuren. Daarom stond op de derde dag van 2025 een uitstapje naar Duitsland op de planning.
Op de koude ochtend van vrijdag 3 januari konden meerdere foto's worden geschoten van de RB37 tussen Krefeld Hbf en Neuss Hbf. De tweede rit met op kop de 111 054 passeerde de 6 Nederlandse fotografen als RB37 richting Neuss Hbf.
Inmiddels is de 111 054 uitgewisseld met de 185 063 in PRESS kleurstelling. Sinds 8 januari weer een andere loc, dit keer de 111 174.
Ook dinsdag 18 februari was een dag met veelal strakblauwe luchten. Hier werd wederom goed gebruik van gemaakt en kon er deze keer weer een andere loc met andere stam worden afgestreept op de RB37.
Tijdens mijn derde bezoek in 2025 aan deze lijn kon namelijk de 111 143 met 2 Dosto-rijtuigen worden gefotografeerd in Bösinghoven. Deze samenstelling is deze week als test op de RB37 te zien. Vorig jaar had ik al op deze plek gestaan, toen met de 110 128 en N-wagens. Om 16:16 passeerde de RB37 89421 de Nederlandse fotografen onderweg naar Neuss Hbf.
