L'altra parte della sfiducia è la speranza. Arrivi senza fiato lì dove credevi ti aspettassero solo riposo e calma, e il senso delle tante cose fatte è evaporato, sfuggendo alle tue mani screpolate e alla tua mente spossata. Ma il timore che sfumi anche il tempo tanto atteso, lasciando dietro sé solo il sapore di un risveglio sciatto, è la fiducia che non andrà semplicemente così. Che qualcosa di straordinario ancora possa sorgere. Che un suono meraviglioso ancora possa riscaldare il cuore. Che tu possa ancora avere il respiro accelerato di un bambino davanti al suo regalo, la vigilia di Natale.

The other part of distrust is hope. You arrive breathless there where you thought were waiting for you only rest and calm, and the sense of the many things done is evaporated, escaping to your chapped hands and your exhausted mind. But the fear that it could fade even the long-awaited time, leaving behind only the flavor of a sloppy awakening, is the confidence that it simply won't go this way. That something extraordinary can still arise. That a wonderful sound still can warm the heart. That you can still have the rapid breathing of a child in front of his gift, at Christmas Eve.

Frammenti di me, sospesi sulla corda dai molti nodi che mi ha portato dove sono. Come foglie secche, hanno provato ma non ce l'hanno fatta a non morire. Oggi c'è il sole, ed è come se fosse estate ancora un po'. Domani qualche altra foglia sarà caduta, e io forse non me ne accorgerò nemmeno. Né potrò guardarla mentre cade, ché queste cose, si sa, succedono sempre quando tutti guardano altrove. Ma allora cosa resta di me, in questa continua lotta contro il freddo, e il buio, e la fine di ogni cosa? Forse l'unica cosa che resta sono io, mai uguale ma sempre lo stesso, radicato nella terra e forte come un albero nel tener su le sue foglie. Ma la forza è nulla di fronte al tempo, che sempre ci racconta la stessa filastrocca.

Fragments of me, hanging on the rope by many nodes that brought me where I am. Like dry leaves, they have tried but they haven't managed to not to die. Today the sun is shining, and it's like if it were still summer a bit. Tomorrow some other leaf will fall, and maybe I won't even notice. Nor will I watch it fall, for these things, you know, always happen when everyone looks elsewhere. But then what's left of me, in this ongoing struggle against the cold, and the darkness, and the end of everything? Perhaps the only thing left is me, never the same but always the same, rooted in the earth and strong like a tree in taking on its leaves. But the strength is nothing compared to the time, which always tells the same rhyme.

La domenica mattina appartiene al divenire. È goccia di rugiada che dà vita alla terra, è germoglio che buca il legno del ramo, è foglia che cambia colore, è l'animale che esce fuori dalla tana, è vento che porta nuvole sul suo palmo, è uomo che riscopre se stesso, è stare seduti su una panchina, è una passeggiata, è musica che allunga un braccio fuori dalla finestra, è la leggerezza delle ore, è tempo che non è denaro, divenuto per questo più prezioso.
Non è vero che la domenica mattina tutto si ferma. È invece il tempo in cui tutto si trasforma, tutto ritrova un equilibrio, tutto si lascia accarezzare dall'aria e vola via, in prospettive e in memorie, come albero che racchiude in sé il seme di autunno e primavera.

Sunday morning belongs to the becoming. It's dewdrop that gives life to the earth, it's bud that pierces the wood of the branch, it's leaf that changes color, it's the animal that comes out of the hole, it's wind that carries clouds on its palm, it's man who rediscovers himself, it's being sit on a bench, it's a walk, it's music that stretches its arm out the window, it's the lightness of the hours, it's time that is not money, and so become more valuable.
It's not true that on Sunday morning everything stops. Instead, it's the time when everything changes, everything finds a balance, everything lets itself be caressed by the air and flies away, in perspectives and in memories, like a tree that contains within it the seed of autumn and spring.
