This is the part of winter that I love. The first snow, when everything is clean and white and it feels so fresh. It always makes me feel like a kid again.

Close of a dead and decaying water oak, sans bark. I believe the detail is from insects previously burrowing under the bark.
A little bit more abstract than my usual photos, I lay down on the woodland floor and took a series of photos which I joined in Photoshop.
..........a Yellow- throat and tree cricket . I don't know if he was successful in his capture or not. Despite the fact that I anticipated action and had the camera ready and focused. When he made a grab for the cricket all I got was a flurry of wings and the tip of his tail and feet disappearing out of the picture.
Both the cricket and the bird were gone but I rather imagine at that close range that the cricket was lunch !
This week in SSC: Trees!
Wow, this was a real challenge for me this week. My husband and I went on a hike and discovered this really great tree but when I viewed my pics on the computer when I got home they didn't look so good so we went back and tried again. Now I have 3 photos to show you! :D
This Douglas Fir tree is at least 500 years old. It's unusual to see a tree this size around here. Sadly they've all been logged off. I had my husband play "Tree Hugger" for me to give you an idea of its size (photo below.) At one point in its life it looks like it was struck by lightning. There is a scar running up the length of the tree (photo below.) It is really a magnificent tree. I've grown quite fond of it this week and wish I could bring it home (intact.) :-)

I found this dead piece of wood in Arches Nationalpark next to Balanced Rock. I was fascinated from the colorful scenery.
Elberadweg.
in Melnik/CZ . Dort fliesst die Moldau in die Elbe. Klingt prima soweit.
