The cable you see is one of the garnier limbs fixing the structure to the trees. The house is actually suspended from several trees, this one at the shower and wall to house being one.
We had to condemn the boys' treehouse last summer when the floor started to rot through. After much debate on whether to contract out or built it ourselves, we finally came to our senses and hired an awesome team to build this for us. Best! Treehouse! Ever!! :)
I still have finishing touches to put on the treehouse and the kids probably have another year or two before they start making real use of it... On the list is to make the inside dry which means gaskets around the branches and a sliding barn door. Punching some windows in the right spots, adding some bunk beds and building a more permanent latter.

In this project 8 palms get a head start (per treehouse) then a structure is clamped and hung from the trees. The structure comes with all prefabricated units, yet the pieces are pretty common and flexible, so local materials could substitute. The wood is stock lumber and the roof is corrugated metal. The only custom parts that have no substitute are the kitchen and bathroom units.
