An evening walk through Hudson Mills Metro Park in early spring. Signs of returning life are obvious. Birds singing, frogs peeping, mosses turning green...

Sky was partially cloudy but tower bells silhouette mixed with trees captured my attention.

Photo of Big Lagoon, looking west towards the Pacific Ocean (which is on the other side of the thin strip of land and on the other side of the trees), captured on the Big Lagoon Bridge on U.S. Highway 101, the Redwood Highway, via Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm F/1.7 lens and the bracketing method of photography in the census-designated place of Big Lagoon. Humboldt County. Late November 2014.

The same tree capture from the other side on a different day.

Autumn trees at Thorp Perrow Arboretum

I was in high school and it was 1977. School was just getting out and I was getting ready to leave. I was sitting in my Charger in the parking lot waiting for a schoolmate (and freedom!), when a friend who was freshly on the yearbook team walked up and said, "hey, I've got this new camera, can I take a picture of your car for practice" and luckily I said "yes!" Back in 2013, when the new photo was taken, thirty six years later, University High School had relocated several miles away and an alternative school occupied the space (it still does). I couldn’t quite stand and take the photo in the exact same spot because of a chain link fence that was added in the nineties to store the school buses but I was very close.

The tiny house in the background still looks about the same as do the trees. Captured in the black and white photo are two friends heading out (at a high rate of speed, obviously seeking freedom too) in a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle and a 1975 Plymouth Roadrunner. The other cars in the parking lot are slightly less interesting but still reflect the time very nicely (including a real oldie).

The parking lot's size, hydrant locations, and layout fit in nicely for fire department training so every few months or so we go there for some crew evolutions. There, while going through all my cool fire officer tasks, I often remember my time there as a student.

Experimental: I've been experimenting recently with shutter speeds, and in this image, I was trying to capture both the stars and the light of a campfire. The flickering fire reflected beautifully off of the trees, capturing the feeling of camping under the stars.

Some pink flowering ornamental trees captured this spring and painted up in brownish tones.

Original image captured with iPhone and Olloclip Macro Lens. It was edited on the iPad first in Snapseed then painted up in a bunch of apps then layered with blend modes and opacity settings and some textures were also applied.

Apps used include: a bunch of different Waterlogue layers, AutoPainter, Camvas.

A winter tree, captured in front of a rainbow -- saturation and contrast turned up to make it into a piece of abstract art !

I illustrated the principles of balance and emphasis in this image. I caused the sense of balance by catching the sun at the right angle through the tree capturing the lens flare around the sun thus creating balance.

The image was clearly caught through a tree but on the other side of the tree was the school parking lot so the sun setting over the school was caught through a tree. It felt like the end of a day through the barrier of home and school.

I feel like the capturing of the lens flare and emphasis of the light in the center was done well and helped tie the image together.

I feel if I had been a little better with the timing and balance of my camera it could have been a clearer shot . Also being a little bit higher up over the center branch and caught the sun at a better angle over the branch to seem like the horizon.

I took this recently on the days we had the big moon. The picture is a simple silhouette of a dead tree.

The white's of the daisies seemed to really come out in the afternoon sunlight. I found that a nice tonal contrasts to the darker ones with the barn and nearby trees.

Captured in the Buckner Orchard area in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area.

Tulip Tree captured at Longwood Gardens. Branches reaching out like arms across and into the sky. The height could be 60 to 90+ feet and it may date back to the 50's.
