New shoots on a Holly tree captured by a beam of sunlight

I captured this scene last week during a brief respite from the rain. The Ohio River was overflowing its banks, and the water was rushing swiftly. Unfortunately, taking photos at the riverbanks wasn’t possible that day. The Indiana FEMA team or IN-TF1 was in the water and on the banks, not for a search and rescue mission, but for practice. Can you even imagine the effort it takes to navigate a rubber raft in such swift water? I didn’t take their pictures that day because I didn’t want to distract them. I also would have needed more film to capture that shot. Instead, I focused on my task of capturing the light shining above that tree. Capturing light flare is a tricky task that requires multiple frames to find the perfect image.

This image was shot on location at Barrington Court in Somerset using a converted infrared camera.

Struggling to find a subject, these six Poplar trees captured my attention. During the shoot the dark sky helped to create a backdrop that enhanced the white of the subject, helping it to stand out.

This far from perfection!

I took this photo 5 minutes from my home.

There is a lot of light pollution and you can even see a heavy illuminated building and "ugly" lens flares.

It was a windy night, so the trees are blurried.

But nevermind, i think this tree captures the eye, leaving all the other things immaterial

The beautiful light just beyond the forest trees captured my attention and could not resist trying to capture it! Thanks for stopping.

Each summer I go to a cottage in North Frontenac for a couple of weeks, and just unplug. One of the great distractions is the wildlife, birds included. This Song Sparrow was a part of a nesting pair, and from the contents of its bill over the week one could create a taxonomy of the insects of eastern Ontario - it darted in and out of the trees capturing insects of all kinds to take back to the nest. Fortunately one of its launch points back to the nest was at eye height. And, fortunately, it wasn't always raining.

Today I spent a few hours with an old friend at the lake. Whilst he did some fishing I took a stroll along the lake shore. This was a scene looking across the lake and the remains of this very old tree captured my imagination and made me think.

90012 1430 Euston - Glasgow 28th March. 1989. My association with the Greenholme tree position goes back to the 1983/84 period when after a day spent on the S&C we would head off to Greenholme in the hope of capturing some northbound freights, specifically the Gunnie cement. Happy days.

Made it back to the main falls area for the sunrise, catching the warm lighting on the Virginia side trees.

Captured this shorter long exposure with the 10mm on the 60D, while taking a longer exposure with the 5D (yet to process that one).

Pretty view with the ice and snow out on the rocks in the middle of the flow. Also nice catching it here under lower flow conditions, have many shots with torrents coming through where you can barely see the rocks. It is pretty with all the many cascades along the 75 foot drop of the Potomac River.
