Colorado Springs, CO - Another of my feeble attempts to catch in flight swallows (previous post below), this Tree Swallow appears to have dropped whatever it scooped off of the water's surface. I think it mistook a pine needle for a tasty bug ...
I haven't done as much photography this summer as I wished to.
A lot of that has to do with continuing to be a CareGiver for my husband and also his driver for many appointments.
However I did send in my Olympus OMD EM5 to be converted to full spectrum.
Finally got out yesterday am, and as I walked along the water, 1000's and 1000's of mostly tree swallows were in flight and sitting. Did see a few purple martins mixed in, this tree across the river was amazing, this is like 1/6 of the tree, there were 2 trees like this . Was a sight to see

The Angel Oak Tree is estimated to be in excess of 400-500 years old, stands 66.5 ft (20 m) tall, measures 28 ft (8.5 m) in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet (1,600 meters). From tip to tip Its longest branch distance is 187 ft. It is a southern live oak located in Angel Oak Park on Johns Island SC.

The tree swallows are getting busy as the mosquito population grows. They are a favorite bird this time of year going thru their body weight in mosquitos every day.
During my hike late yesterday afternoon along the trail and Gunpowder Falls State Park, I was taking a lot of captures along the river with the 9 Stop ND and stacked on top a thin CPL filter. This allowed for some nice captures in the 6 to 15 second range along the river's edge, and given the leaves were not moving much in the still air worked very well.
Here I was heading deeper into the woods along the trail to get further down the river and liked that sunlight in the trees. I stopped on the trail and composed this shot. Just as I was about to shoot it for 15 seconds, low and behold a breeze kicked in and stirred the leaves. I could have screwed off the 9 stop ND and put the CPL back on ... but is was much easier (being lazy) to adjust the ISO from 100 to 1600 and shorten the shutter to 2 seconds, which was short enough not to show any leaf movement. I also know that the ISO 1600 performance on the 5DMIII sensor would not be an issue.
