Something different. No bokeh today (sometimes I've got to do it). I had to stand in this spot for a while to get the path with no people on (there are some people in the distance though), but every time I tried to get a shot, someone would walk/cycle/skateboard into my shot. Now, if I trying for bokeh people, that would be fine, but instead, I probably looked like I was lost or something just standing there. :)
Happy Thursday! The weekend is in sight! I've looking forward to some quality time with my camera. I haven't picked it up for several weeks, and with the days getting really short, it's hard to find time or the light to get anything worth it. I always seem to be using the same lens recently, which is fine, but I do think I need to take some other lenses out for a spin this weekend. Maybe The Beast (macro lens)... or I might try and see if the garden birds co-operate with my big zoom lenses. We'll see... :)
This beautiful tree is a Japanese Maple, and is in the Japanese Garden in Washington Park, Portland. We are just getting some really beautiful fall color now.
My thanks to you all for your wonderful comments and fave's! It is heartwarming and inspiring to me.

Every now and then I stumble across an image I've shot and never post; I then view it 2 years later and can't think why I never posted it.... The light on the trees is actually the overspill lighting from a bunch of ne'er do well light painters accompanying me that evening :-)
Beauty is all around us if we pay a little attention to it. A simple ray of sunlight can transform an insignificant landscape into a magnificent one.
The trees are growing on an Esker. It is an important geological feature as it is the longest in the UK. Eskers are formed by a river running underneath a glacier. The bank is a long line of gravel and pebbles.

This gnarly tree sits atop a cleared hill not far from my house. The views from this spot are superb - a 270-degree view of the Continental Divide along the Rocky Mountains. Some of my earliest memories are of eating a picnic lunch under this tree.
The hill, field, and tree are private property, now. After looking at the tree for twenty years and not venturing close, one day I decided to walk past the "No Trespassing" signs and take a photo. I got one photo before I was chased away...
A black and white version is here.
From my photos, it looks like we got a lot of snow today, but it didn't add up to much. For a few minutes this morning, though, we got these big, beautiful flakes. Just wish it had lasted a little longer, as it only added up to about a half inch.
It was the juxtaposition of the 2 dead trees and the flow of the light that brought me back to this shot...Would have been nicer without the tree foliage on the right though!
The tall skinny trees looked like a forest of feather dusters.

I usually walk to work, and my path takes me through
Beach Park. Snow squalls moved out last night, leaving blue skies and no wind. Every branch had an inch of snow balanced on it, making each tree brilliant in the morning sun.
While I was capturing this tree (during my morning walk with the dog), I saw the fog came in. First far away in the valley, at this moment the fog almost reached the tree. From the various pictures I took, I selected this one.

I have walked past this tree many times, but today the light was just right- can you see the face?

Ich bin schon oft an diesem Baum vorbei spaziert, aber heute war das Licht so dass ich das Gesicht sehen konnte.

A quiet Sunday morning at Larkrigg (bridge 180) near Kendal on the dry northern reaches of the Lancaster canal. I was there for about an hour before the tow-boat circus turned up. I was a bit worried at one point, if someone was to asked me what I was waiting for, my reply of "a boat" might have caused some concern. I did think that if I added that Captain Jack Sparrow will be in command, the police would soon arrive! The larch trees on the left were planted by the canal company, very forward thinking of them, as their boats used Larch.
thank you all for your friendly comments! :-)) I'm happy, that this beautiful tree can grow the way nature wants..
