Two groups of statues at the crossroad Pilsusiedzka/ Swidnicka, right on the way from the main train station to the Old Town. They seem to walk down imaginary stairs on one side of the street and re-appear on the other side. Some say that it's about the transition of the German city "Breslau" to the current Polish city Wroclaw. Other opinions are that they represent the Jewish people who tried to hide underground before the WW II and come back after the WW II...

September 15th, 2009 - Transition: movement, passage, or change from one position, state, stage, subject, concept, etc., to another. This has been a stage we will never forget or ever be able to repay. Our friends Ann & Scott have been so generous, we can never thank them enough. So many great memories from the past 20 months, that only the blog holds them all. As we hit the road, we take Scott, Ann and Belle with us in our hearts and look forward to reconnecting again (quite soon actually and throughout the coming year's destinations). Thank you so much, Ann & Scott!

Again this changes appearance dramatically in different light.

Flo officially "graduated" high school this week, sort of wrapping up our collaborative homeschooling journey. She finished with a year of college credits under her belt and a resolute desire to marinade in the possibilities of life for a bit, soaking in some experience, while perfecting a recipe (plan) for future pursuits. Thus, the "gap year" commences! To celebrate this coming of age, Flo wanted to go spend a couple weeks with Silas in Tennessee. So, Zofia joined me in transporting Flo, and we made a trip of it, stopping in Virginia to visit our old friends Floy & Oliva, then, spending a couple nights in Johnson City. It feels a little full circle, considering almost 18 years ago, Flo was born in Tennessee when Darren and I were facing some transitions of our own. Life is interesting... and good.

2013 Exodus Place Exodus Place is a transitional housing facility for men facing homelessness, including military veterans, men who have been in prison and men who are coming out of any hopeless situation. Our objective is to get them back on their feet by providing housing, counseling, employment assistance, 3 meals a day, mentoring and much more. We believe that with the right tools at their disposal, they can get their lives back on track. Exodus Place promotes "A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out".

My photographs represent my transition to the University of Florida. I recently transferred from Santa Fe College, so I am trying to adjust from a semi-small environment to an even larger environment. Each photo shows my process of discovering the campus. My goal for each photo was to depict John Szarkowski’s five issues, such as the thing itself, the detail, the frame, the time, and the vantage point. I have some images that are my favorite, and I believe these few photos represent all of Szarkowski’s five issues.

Some of my pictures focus on shadows, and I was inspired by the work of the photographers Harry Callahan and Paul Strand. For example, the photo of my shadow on the sidewalk. Also, my picture with the star water fountain represents Szarkowski’s issues concerning time and detail. When I took a photo of the water fountain, the water is paused, and I noticed the bubbles within the water stream. Moreover, if I had to pick which photograph was my favorite, it would be the picture with me crouched down in the hallway. I love this photo because I like how I changed the filter to black and white. After all, the building my class was in gives me early 50 and 60 vibes. Overall, I hope you enjoy viewing my photos and that they help you feel as if you are exploring the campus with me.
