Modern trains, running under wires.
But soon the wiggly amps will stop and the train will swap to using diesel engines.

Recently named at Paddington and appropriately photographed at Cheltenham, home to Government Communications HQ (GCHQ) 800008 now bears the name of Alan Turing, renowned code breaker and mathematician. Also appropriate, given that he was gay, the name has been applied to the IET which already carried the Trainbow for gay rights. Hidden within the trainbow is some form of code, which I have yet to break!

Unveiled in February 2023 South Western Railway's class 444 EMU 444 019 has been treated to these colourful 'Trainbow 2023' LGBT graphics and decals on its driving carriage ends to celebrate South Western Railway's LGBT awareness and the diversity of its workforce. The unit is seen here enjoying a well-earned rest at the buffer stop end of platform 12 at London Waterloo on the early afternoon of Tuesday 25th April 2023 prior to its scheduled departure with a South Western Railway express service out to Bournemouth and Weymouth, where this ten-car class 444 unit will divide at Bournemouth with only the leading five-car class 444 unit continuing onwards towards the likes of Poole, Dorchester South and Weymouth.

The large branch of Boots on the left of the photo is built on the site of the former Parcels bay where various Royal Mail and BR Red Star Parcels vans used to load and unload their wares from the arriving trains from the 1950s through to the 1990s before the former Parcels bay was eventually built over in the 2000s.

Seen sat on Platform 5 in Preston stabled overnight, is Avanti West Coast 390119, named “Progress.” This is one of just 2 special livery Class 390 Pendolino’s that Avanti West Coast operates, and this one represents the LGBT community. This is the first train from the Trainbow LGBT Marketing Campaign to be covered from end-to-end in Pride colours, having been unveiled in 2020.
Usually, this train runs ECS to Longsight depot in Manchester after arriving from London Euston, but usually, this doesn’t happen, due to one of the drivers for Avanti West Coast being based in Preston. Stabling the Pendolino in Preston means that the driver can start his shift immediately, instead of having to travel all the way to Manchester to then take the train on yet another ECS movement to then start it’s first service of the day.

5-toed running socks? YES!! I love these things. They were the weirdest thing ever when I first heard about them. Then I actually tried them and they ROCK! I have issues with my toes rubbing together when I run and these socks prevent that! The best thing about them too... now they come in RAINBOW STRIPE!
