Hiking trail near Johnson Lake, Banff National Park

The Wildwood Trail winding its way through the southern section of Forest Park. It was an absolutely GORGEOUS day yesterday in Portland and the temp got up to about 65. It was a perfect day for a walk in the park.

We recommend this little hike for Robin Blandford. It's the Huashan Trail, located in the Shaanxi Province of China, close to Robin's current digs in Singapore. Some people consider it to be the most dangerous tourist hiking trail in the world. Robin has honed his skills in the high mountains of Ireland, so walking the Huashan Trail would be a normal day out for him. It's a public trail, open to anyone with a fine sense of balance.

The Upper USGS Waialeale Trail is close to its final configuration except it zigs south approaching Keaku Cave (dugout really) for a view down into Olokele Valley at probably the same viewpoint called Haleokunuu during the first haole ascent.

...Our next breathing place was on the brink of a huge amphitheater at a place called Haleokunuu; the scenery as beheld from this point was exceedingly fine; we looked down into the circular valley some thousand feet in depth and two or three miles in diameter, from the green sides of which number of silver cascades were falling... The first full size images I've uploaded I was told I take good trail pics so here's a lot for you to choose from.

The Preston Ponds trail sports a fine new bridge over the Roaring Brook. The handrail on the upstream side has already been knocked loose by a falling tree.

Inca Trail Description:

Visitors come from all parts of the world to Peru, not only to see Machu Picchu but to walk the Inca Trail, the most famous hike in South America. They come to see the ruins and the scenery which makes this trail so famous. The total distance of the Inca trail is approximately 43 kilometres, departing from the place known as Kilometre 88. To begin the trip, one crosses the narrow bridge at Kusicancha, and afterwards heads towards the left hand side of a forest of Eucalyptus trees. Camping on this night is either in Wayllabamba or Llullucha. The second day is more difficult, as you have to climb to 4200 metres at the Pass of Warmiwañusqa (Dead Woman’s pass). The third day is the longest, but also the most interesting for many people as you can visit impressive ruins like Runkuracay and Sayaqmarca. Camping is either in Phuyupatamarca or Wiñayhuayna. On the final day many groups leave early to see the sun rise over Machu Picchu from the Inti Punku (sun gate). The remainder of the day is spent exploring this fabulous ancient city.

I thought this place would be closed by now from the rumors we were hearing. Nice to see it still open. Never eaten here before but I may have some time left before I miss the opportunity. Love the wall paper, don't ya?

Happy Trails to them but not yet.

First nights campsite on the Colorado Trail section 8. About 2.5 miles past Camp Hale heading towards Tennessee Pass. Needed to take a bath in bug spray to keep the skeeters away! A smokey fire helped keep them at bay though! There was a nice creek nearby.

Spent a few morning hours shooting with my good friend Mike Karr. We visited a few spots that didn't require too much bushwhacken because of a healing knee.

After a quick shoot at Elowah we hoofed it up through Pony-tail Falls and ended up a mile or so above above Triple Falls on Oneonta Creek. The creek up there had a couple nice spots but we both seemed to think that the Fall season would be the best time to shoot Upper Oneonta Creek due to the numerous Maples in the area.

It seems my knee is going to take longer than i originally hoped and therefore I have to visit the usual spots that aren't too far off trail. Climbing over obstacles and slipping in the creeks is a killer on the left knee.

So the plan is to be fairly conservative for now so in July and August I can hopefully make it up to the upper reaches of Mt. Hood and Jefferson...we'll see though.

The Shot >> This was taken up above Triple Falls a ways. The greens were intense and the rain was falling. I know with the way the weather has been the last two months...its hard to believe. LOL.

I took a little bit of time last week to stop and enjoy what time we have of the warm temperatures... and went out to the Paint Creek Trail to snap some pictures. The sun was setting just over the horizon of trees... and the sunburst was just perfect.

Gotta love this time of the year... Fall is here... and the colors will be blazing soon!
