After reading about a unique waterfall located within what was described as a slot canyon less than 90 minutes from home, I knew I had to see it for myself.
Directions ended with: "At the end of the trail, follow the manway (unofficial trail) up, around the first waterfall, climb a small rock wall, and hike the remainder of the way to the next falls in the streambed". This translated into: Geezers like me will be sore the next day and will need to make an offering of a full dose of Ibuprofen to the trail gods.
Bailey Falls is located near Greeneville, TN in Cherokee National Forest, past Margarette Falls on the West Fork Dry Creek and is further divided into an upper and lower falls. The lower falls are shown here, with the top of the upper falls visible here as the first drop. The Lower Falls are 20 feet in height and the canyon section surrounding the plunge pool being perhaps 8 feet in width. With the rhododendrons overhanging the canyon from both sides it had a cave-like appearance. What it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty. There is only here. There is only now, and it is good. Off Trail Zen.

These wonderful birds more than made up for the 4am starts during our stay in Scotland.

This is an 11.2 mile point-to-point trail that traverses over 3,000 feet of elevation. It starts near the Visitor Center close to the summit.

The Mountain Laurel were in full bloom and we were enticed to walk a short distance down the Appalachian Trail. This trail runs from the state of Georgia to the state of main and is 2,200 miles long. We probably covered.... oh I would say an eight of a mile of it! LOL It runs through the Shenandoah National Park.

It might not be obvious at first but running across the center of this photo is the Highline Trail. Can you see it? Two hikers have stopped near the cemter of the photo. The man in the black jacket is taking a photo of the woman in a white jacket. Can you see them? Visible also is a rope along the trail so hikers can hang on if they choose. Highland trail which traverses the Garden Wall is one of the most popular trails in Montana’s Glacier National Park. With sections like this that have shear drops off beneath the path, the trail is also one of the most hair raising. Here the trail is carved into the cliffside. It is a thrilling hike but is not for those who fear heights. This picture was taken from a pretty good distance as I was on the overlook at Oberlin Bend on the Going-to-the-Sun Highway.
While Ballintemple is a Nursery for trees run by the semi-state body, Coilte, it is open to visitors and walkers and part of its delight are the beautiful views of the Blackstairs and the Wicklow Mountains, it has gorgeous forest trails.

On August 5, 2021, we went on a hike through the Harold N. Peek Preserve. This preserve is part of an organization called Natural Lands. It is 4.9 miles from our house and this was the first time we had been to visit.
From their website:
"Natural Lands is a non-profit organization that saves open space, cares for nature, and connects people to the outdoors in eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. We’ve been at it since the early 1950s and, today, nearly five million people live within five miles of lands under our permanent protection."
