The Park Avenue Trail is one of the first major attractions within Arches National Park. It is a one-mile trail that follows the bottom of a canyon at the feet of some of the gigantic, and well-known monoliths of interesting formation protruding from the canyon walls.

The Three Gossips, the Courthouse Towers, Queen Nefertiti and Queen Victoria Rock, the Organ, and the Tower of Babel are all visible from the road as visitors drive up towards Balanced Rock and Delicate Arch, but there is a large difference in experience when actually hiking through them.

This short out and back trail heads north down a wide canyon flanked by towering rock walls and spires. These impressive formations are reminiscent of skyscrapers and buildings that shape Manhattan, hence the name 'Park Avenue'.

The trail drops from the trailhead on a steep set of stone stairs (seeing in the foreground) to the wide canyon floor. The dirt path is soon predominantly sandstone as you travel down the widening canyon mouth.

This trail takes you from the border of Mexico to Utah. I hiked some of it last week through the Catalina Mountains. The camera date is wrong as this photo is only 3 days old.

The Botkin Trail in the Yalta Nature Reserve is one of the most famous hiking trails in the Crimean Mountains. Its length from Kirov Street to the top of Stavri-Kay aMount is 4.5 kilometers.

The Botkin Trail route was created in 1901 for tuberculosis patients. They could take wellness walks here, so it is also called the "Health Trail". In these places, the phytoncides of the coniferous forest are mixed with the sea breeze, which creates a positive effect for the treatment of lung diseases.

Professor Sergey Botkin was one of the most famous physicians in Russia in the second half of the 19th century. He received the title of academician and the position of physician of the royal family. Since 1870, he has been studying the climate of the Southern coast of Crimea and made a huge contribution to the popularization of recreation and the development of sanatoriums in the Crimea. He was the first to note the healing properties of the air on the Southern coast of Crimea for the treatment of lung diseases.

Mason, Ohio. The city that never sleeps (at 8 pm). I set up my camera on the sidewalk under the cover of the front of a building to capture light trails on a rainy night. I jokingly told my wife I could name this image "The City That Never Sleeps." She responded, "it's only 8 o'clock."

I sure felt like a trail camera here. These three deer came so close on this evening. I was perfectly still and downwind..and we all know how quiet our camera actions can be. It did make me wonder if folks had been feeding them in this preserve, or if I was truly a curiosity. Whatever the cause, it was a cool moment.

Hike around Lake Bulusan to enjoy the scenic view of the trees, boats and trails. However, it is near Mount Bulusan which is an active volcano. Be aware of the alert level when visiting Bulusan in the Philippines.

I composed this image while hiking the Whiterock Trail in Utah's Snow Canyon State Park. Surrounded by massive dunes of various strong colours - and mostly red - the occasional white massive rock formation stands out, as pictured here.

What happens to make normally red Navajo Sandstone white? Sandstone is porous and permeable to water because there are spaces between the sand grains. Under certain circumstances, the iron pigment in red sandstone can dissolve in water and be removed, or be rendered colourless by chemical reactions in the water. Voila! White dunes. It's no surprise, then, that the hiking path toward these dunes is named "Whiterock Trail."

I went out deliberately on a very overcast day thinking that subtle autumn colours might also be pleasing. I am happy enough with this photo of the trail that leads to Ottawa and beyond.

The color is peaking and the leaves are starting to fall around here. My favorite time of year. I have been away for a few weeks and will try to catch up as I can.

After reading about a unique waterfall located within what was described as a slot canyon less than 90 minutes from home, I knew I had to see it for myself.

Directions ended with: "At the end of the trail, follow the manway (unofficial trail) up, around the first waterfall, climb a small rock wall, and hike the remainder of the way to the next falls in the streambed". This translated into: Geezers like me will be sore the next day and will need to make an offering of a full dose of Ibuprofen to the trail gods.

Bailey Falls is located near Greeneville, TN in Cherokee National Forest, past Margarette Falls on the West Fork Dry Creek and is further divided into an upper and lower falls. The lower falls are shown here, with the top of the upper falls visible here as the first drop. The Lower Falls are 20 feet in height and the canyon section surrounding the plunge pool being perhaps 8 feet in width. With the rhododendrons overhanging the canyon from both sides it had a cave-like appearance. What it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty. There is only here. There is only now, and it is good. Off Trail Zen.
