Some colorful pertrified wood found along the Crystal Forest Trail in Petrified Wood National Park, Arizona.
The 0.8 mile loop trail takes you into the remains of an ancient forest, where some 225 million years ago, 200-foot tall conifers dominated a tropical lowland. Time, climate, and geologic forces buried the trees in layers of mud and volcanic ash, leaving enormous fossilized remains for visitors of the modern age.
The fossilized trees of the Crystal Forest have an unusually high concentration of additional crystals inside the trees themselves — small pockets where the trees have become filled with deposits that eventually turned into quartz and amethyst crystals.

Michael just got a new mountain bike so expect some off-the-beaten-path photos in the future. A great weekend to everyone!

This was the end of the trail for us. If I'm not mistaken, the trail went on for another mile or two.
Car light trails - A87 north of Sligachan
I was driving 'home' around sunset after my visit to Sligachan and saw that view of the Old Mann so pulled over to shoot it. In so doing I noticed passing vehicles had their lights on and with the bend where I was stopped and that up ahead I thought there might be the potential for some light trails. A bit of experimenting with shutter speeds (and the rest of the Exposure triangle) later....and here you go!

We went snowshoeing at Kohler Andrae State Park this morning at the tail end of a snow storm and were the first to blaze through the trail. It was really peaceful!
The portion of the Grandview Trail up near the rim of the Grand Canyon had quite a bit of snow and ice on the trail. Luckily the farther down into the canyon we got, the less snow. The Grandview Trail was originally constructed by miners to connect copper mines with the rim. It is steep with drop offs on one side. But the views of the canyon were amazing!
Trailing edge of a storm that had just blown over my favorite place on the California coast, Pescadero State Beach.
