Driving the Strzelecki Track across the central desert land of Australia, the dunes lit up with the setting sun. An interesting unforgiving landscape, the tracks indicative of life in this harsh interior. A journey I would never attempt in Summer.
World War 2 'austerity' locomotive named after Gordon of Khartoum - now painted in to match Gordon the Blue Engine from the children's book. It was built in Glasgow in 1943 and allocated to the military railway at Longmoor. The middle pair of the five driving wheels have no flanges to ease turning on tighter tracks.
My eldest competed in his school track meet today, running in the 100m dash and in the anchor position of the 4x100 relay. They didn't win, but he was awfully proud of himself. I was, too!
