The cracks from the earthquakes, all the way along the Towpath beside the Heathcote River in Ferrymead, have got bigger and bigger over the months. They are a real danger at night, but the bikers still use the track.

Kelli and Razz decided to go the other direction on the towpath. Jared and I headed for the banks of the Potomac.

The fenders were handy - there was a lot of rain the previous week.

The C&O canal towpath looks like this most of the time. The surface is substantially worse than that of the GAP trail, with frequent potholes and tree roots. Still, especially since it was dry, the trail was easily passable on my road bike with 700x28 tires.
