2017: A Banner Year for Ideum Innovation and Creativity
Learn more at: ideum.com/portfolio
Ideum worked with a wide spectrum of partners, topics, and technologies in 2017, and the result was an exciting range of projects and products. Museum visitors interacted with video wall dinosaurs and used touch displays to explore art, science, and history. New applications let developers create innovative object-recognition applications. Projection mapping shed new light on ancient traditions. Our touch tables and kiosks became more responsive, durable, and accessible than ever before. We were proud to push the envelope in 2017. Watch what we accomplish this year!

The Butte County Department of Water and Resource Conservation and Gateway Science Museum at California State University, Chico teamed together with Ideum to create an interactive watershed map multitouch exhibit. Using layered maps of Northern California, this application, designed for public education, allows users to explore in-depth data about watersheds and water conservation in the I-5 corridor from Williams to Redding, CA.

A view of the 100" multitouch, multiuser exhibit table developed by Ideum for Adventure Science Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The table has two computers and projects and a contiguous surface that allows several people to interact simultaneously with the same program.
The haptic tempered glass and aluminum and steel construction make the table incredibly durable. Blue LED lighting makes the table stand out. It will be part of the Space Chase Gallery at the Adventure Science Center. This exhibit will be open to the public on November 7th. The table is based on Ideum's commercially available MT-50 multitouch table.

Ideum’s in-house Industrial Design team did a great job matching form with function with the new Colossus. The fully redesigned Colossus touch table, with a massive 86″ display, is now available. Like its predecessor, this new version of the Colossus has a 4K Ultra HD display, is hardened for public spaces, and supports up to eight simultaneous users. We’ve updated the touch screen and the powerful integrated computer system in the table base. The overall table form factor is sleeker, as seen in such design touches as the crafting of a slimmer cradle for the top display that sheds inches from the previous design (it is now only 3″ thick).

In the early stages of design an exhibit, our team of designers research artifacts in order to create a visually exciting immersive experience. The design team translates the artifact designs into stylized illustrations for an immersive projection exhibit at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. Their exhibit uses an Ideum 65" Platform multitouch table and immersive projection. The visitors will be invited to learn more about the elements of clothing, while also designing their own western apparel and horse. ideum.com/products/touch-tables/platform

The Girl Scouts visit on July 24, 2019, was part of Ideum’s ongoing support of local non-profit organizations whose mission is to support local education and social justice. Because Ideum’s work spans engineering, hardware design and fabrication, and custom software programming, our team was able to offer a meaningful experience for local girls with broad interests in pursuing careers in science, technology, arts, or mathematics.
Ideum worked closely with the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in Washington, D.C. to design and develop a compelling introduction to the Museum’s collection. This multiuser interactive application allows visitors to access over 200 works from the museum's collection.
This is Ideum’s fifth collaboration with a Smithsonian museum: we have also been fortunate to work with the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Air and Space Museum, and the National Portrait Gallery.
