I made one of the strangest dinners ever. Side dish: barley couscous with fresh sweet corn, fresh apricots, wild blueberries (smaller and less sweet than regular kind) and scallions, seasoned with coriander. Main dish: purchased fantastic smoky grilled calamari from gourmet market, combined with sauteed zucchini and purslane. Smoky & sweet combo was fantastic, with chilled dry Torrontes wine.
The dry climate produces good grapes, even though they were leafless in the winter. Cafayate is known for Torrontes, an unusual white wine, and Cabernets, while Mendoza, further to the south, is known for their Malbec. 27Jun08

Torrontes is new grape for me. Awesome sunny afternoon wine! Viognier-ish apricots on the nose, but interesting soapiness on the finish. Very interesting wine. Keeps you on your toes, while being eminently sippable. Take this wine to a weekend outdoor party and watch people swoon! ($11.99 from Wine Mine, Wine Pilgrim Rating: 1.2)
Very floral and fruity on the nose. I loved the way it smelled. The taste was surprisingly dry and not sweet. I still like the wine very much, but it didn't hold up to some of the sturdier dishes we had.

Cor amarelo pálido, com toques esverdeados.
No nariz se destaca por um buquê floral, principalmente rosas jasmin, e frutado (uva fresca, pêssego branco e lima).
Ao paladar é delicado, bem estruturado, seco e com uma final agradável.
Harmonização: Perfeito para acompanhar peixes, galinha, queijos e carnes com molhos agridoces.
Tempo de guarda: 2 anos
Temperatura de consumo sugerida: entre 10 e 12ºC
Composição: 100% Torrontés
Origem: Valle de Cafayate, Província de Salta, Argentina
Este vinho não passa por carvalho.
