Argentina Wines: (From Left to Right) Torrontes, Bonarda and Malbec.
(Foreward: All of the wines were amazing!)
Torrontes: From the aroma I was expecting a sweet fruity flavor, yet, it hit my palate with a nice subtle acidity. Pairs well with shellfish.
Bonarda: The tannins were very strong. Paired with beef or maybe pork with some fat to give some..... almost got a little too deep, I must remember my page is safe. Foodies, you know where I was going with that ;)
Malbec: The tannins weren't as strong as the Bonarda. I love the dark ruby-purple color and body with this wine.
Our hotel complex sits on a hill overlooking the town of Samaipata. In the near ground are the vineyards of Uvairenda (‘grape place’ in a mash-up of Spanish and Guaraní), producers of 1750-brand wine, Vino de Altura (high-altitude wine) grown at 1,750m/5,742ft above sea level. The restaurant at our hotel has only 1750 wine—a red and a white (Torrontés)—on hand.
Samaipata (elev. 1,650m/5,413ft), which means ‘resting place in the heights’ in Quechua, the language of the Incas, was founded by the Spanish in 1618 as Pueblo del Valle de la Purificación (Village of the Purification Valley). Today it is a popular resort for those seeking to escape the heat of Santa Cruz.

And now on to the Bodega Caelum wine tasting. The short stemmed glass on the right is the Nuvola Dolce Malbec - wonderful as were all the wines tasted at Caelum. From the left their Chardonnay, Torrontes, Reserve Cabernet and the Nuvola. So goodbye Caelum, next stop is Bodega Ruca Malen for a gourmet lunch.

This Torrontés was one of our favorite wine discoveries while in Mendoza. After trying other wines of the same varietal, we decided that this one was far and away the best.
From Wikipedia: Torrontés is a white Argentine wine grape variety, producing fresh, aromatic wines with moderate acidity, smooth texture and mouthfeel as well as distinctive peach and apricot aromas on the nose.

Many Argentines drink inexpensive table wine mixed with soda water. The wine typically comes in large jugs called damajuanas.
