Peruvian Torch Fruit
This is a ripening Peruvian Torch fruit. The dried remains of the flower hang from the top of the fruit. These remains will soon drop off the fruit. Young fruit is green, and the fruit progressively turns red as it matures.
This fruit is about 2 inches long.
Symbol that stands for the unity and friendship that exist between Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
"When designing the sculpture, I thought of creating a symbol of light and I came up with the idea of a torch that stands tall to evoke friendship and unity.
I envisioned two tall columns rising and joining at the top in a playful dance to form the torch.
From all angles it reflects the different facets of the relationships between our countries. Sometimes festive, at times complex, at times very strong, but at the end, integrated and harmonious."

The torches are brought to the gate at the front of the Kurama Temple and piled into a hugh bonfire.

The Olympic torch passing through Parkfields. This was the closest I could get unfortunately, marred by traffic. But you can still just about see the tip of the flame if you look closely.

The annual Iowa Law Enforcement Torch run that marks the beginning of the Iowa Special Olympics in Ames, Iowa. The torch to start the games is lit in Des Moines and teams of Law Enforcement Officers run (and bike) the torch to Ames to officially open the festivities.
