Initially I thought about a smirk ("yeah, what would you do without me?! have bread and water every day???"), but then I changed my mind and went for the uncertain expression ("oh, gee, will that be all? Am I enough?").

Vivian estaba comiendo con su padre en un restaurante de Londres, cuando de golpe se escuchó el aleteo de un ave cerca que se colocaba junto a ella.
—¿Tina? ¡Por las barbas de Merlín! ¿Qué haces aquí?— le preguntó a la lechuza de Inar.
La rubia miró en todas direcciones algo emocionada ¿Estaría en Londres? Pero cuando vio la carta que sostenía su pico supo que le había enviado a Tina para entregarle un mensaje. En el sobre indicaba “Para Vivian de Inar”. Aquello le abrió una sonrisa a la joven Fairchild mientras su padre la observaba con atención.
—¿De verdad que mi princesa ha hecho amigos en Hogwarts?— Thomas Fairchild estaba feliz de ver que su hija empezaba a adaptarse al mundo mágico.
—Sí, ahora somos amigos. Es el compañero Gryffindor que en primero solo me molestaba. El que provocó la explosión de mi caldero ¿Recuerdas?— confesaba entre risas, antes de sorprenderse cuando el sobre producía una pequeña ráfaga de aire con partículas brillantes.
—No sabes cuanto me alegro que os hayáis arreglado— confesaba su padre mientras Vivian empezaba a leer.

“¡Vivian! ¡No han pasado ni dos semanas y ya echo de menos Hogwarts! ¿Te sucede lo mismo? Yo estoy en casa de mi madre en Bristol, pasaré las vacaciones aquí. Imagino que estarás con tu padre este verano como me dijiste ¿Qué te parece que nos enviemos cartas cada semana? ¡El próximo curso podemos quedar ya en el andén 9 ¾, así no habrá ningún accidente… ¡Cómo el de los dos últimos años! Inar se encontraba en el escritorio de su habitación y con una gran sonrisa recibía a Tina con la respuesta de Vivian, su nueva mejor amiga de Hogwarts. Ese último año habían congeniado muy bien, nadie diría que en primero se odiaban.
—Cielo, marcho al Ministerio de Magia, hay un mago que ha asesinado a una familia de mestizos no muy lejos, ve con cuidado y no salgas de casa— le pedía Emilia Castle, su madre auror, antes de desparecer con polvos Flu por la chimenea.
En silencio el niño asintió tragando saliva por la terrible noticia y viéndola desaparecer por la red Flu. Menos mal que su madre se encargaba de dar caza a esos criminales, aunque aún le costaba procesar su poca sutileza.

Empezó a leer aquella alargada y curvada caligrafía tan propia de Vivian, pero lo que más le divertía es que aquello, más que una carta dirigida a un amigo, parecía una del mismísimo Rey.

”Querido amigo Inar,
Me congratula que hayas decidido escribirme estas líneas. Informarte que, efectivamente, estoy alojándome con mi padre este verano en Londres, en su modesto apartamento. No obstante, en breves le concederán sus vacaciones y aprovecharemos para hospedarnos en el Valle de Godric, el hogar de una comunidad mágica. No negaré que estoy de lo más emocionada, dado que será mi primera experiencia en el pueblo natal de Godric Gryffindor, uno de los fundadores de Hogwarts. Topic - "What we actually want you to do for this week is to get out in the hour after sunset and get some twilight images or the hour before sunrise and capture that predawn glow.taken before sunrise"
This was taken at 5.48am with sunrise today at 6.29am. I chose sunrise 'blue hour', because today with the tide in & no wind it gave a beautiful pre-sunrise photo and I could just stand at my front door (with tripod) & capture this shot.
It's interesting to note that the web says our blue hour in Australia at the moment (with winter starting tomorrow), is only for about 30 mins both morning & night.

Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.
The vampire series is over, so I figure it's about time I started posting some "normal" pics, lol!
This is from my archives, and was taken at a local park by the river in Holly Hill, Florida, just north of Daytona Beach. Late afternoon, just before sunset, is my favorite time of day. The way the sun lights up the foliage and paints the clouds with color is hard to beat. Although many of you have beautiful sunrises where you live, here, it's the sunsets that are impressive, even if they aren't over the water!
The Daytona Beach area is on Florida's east coast. The closest place we can find to see the sun set over the water is at the inlet, where the river and ocean merge, but it's not quite the same as seeing it over the ocean. The sun sets over the river when viewed from the east, but not on the horizon. There are always trees and such behind the water. We get the sunrises, but the shades are much softer and more pastel usually, so not as dramatic or vibrant. The indirect sunrise effect over the river or beach is still stunning, and the clouds usually make up for anything lacking in not seeing the actual orb of the sun.

Just for the record, I am SUPER sick of Flickr's glitches! Today it's the I can't change my icon and it took 5 tries to change the image on my page, too problem! Lately, it's been everything from uploading issues to triple spacing when you send a Flickrmail! I hope the Smugmug guys get this junk fixed soon! Paying more for the privilege of being constantly annoyed isn't going to cut it. AND while I'm on that topic, how about lifting the ban on some of us who can't get a photo into Explore to save our souls simply because we've used vignettes or framing! It's been about 6 years since my 263rd Explore pic made it in. Nothing since then. There's no one to ever complain to, either. Grrrrrrrrrr..... Okay. Got the pics changed. What's next?
The theme for this topic is bridge although strictly, this photo is of a viaduct. Whatever you want to call it, it is an amazing structure built in 1842. These Victorian engineers knew how to build!

Topic: Plastic is everywhere. Make a photograph that illustrates a use of plastic in your life today.
It's arts and crafts time for me. I just bought all the supplies necessary to home build snoots and honeycomb grids. The devices will be used to restrict the light and control the falloff.
In the meantime while the supplies are still here I took this opportunity to use these for the today's challenge... Plastic. Of what use is plastic for a passionate amateur photographer? Naturally, something to do with lighting. Here's a shot of the flashlight through black plastic straws (to be cut into smaller pieces to form a grid for my strobes). The straws are reflective on the inside, and some 1/4 inch (8mm) in diameter. Who would have thought they would produce an intriguing pattern when looked through? I have ;-)
Strobist: SB800 bare, directly behind the straws on manual, 1/128 power, zoomed to 105mm. Triggered by the built-in commander.

odc - FOOD CHAIN is the topic for Wed Jan 15 2020 - This might be a stretch but these are "Ancient grinding holes that the natives would ground mesquite pods into meal in the mortar holes etched in the stone. This is also called Tyson Wash in Quartzsite, Arizona if you want to look it up.
My Dad was a musician all of his life. This is his Gibson (1930's vintage) and one of his original compositions called "Cloudy Night"
The topic today is Scale, had alot of fun with this challenge. Would you like a glass of bokeh? The bokeh was a happy surprise.

I’m currently travelling in India with a photography group & there are Sparkles everywhere. I can’t access most of my photos atm, but will put up couple of images.
