Taken in October 2015. The only pond of the four that looks like one.

Best if you press L to view in Flickr's Lightbox and F11 to remove the toolbars.

Taken in June 2015. Just as the weather was changing with a strengthening north easterly wind and rather more cloud. The cars parked on the quay were starting to get a nice wash in salty spray and before long only the most determined remained on the beach. The very large wind farm out in the Channel can be seen on the horizon.

Flickering Jack-O-Lantern photo made to look like lightning hitting the Jack-O-Lantern using the Ribbet website

www.ribbet.com/app/?toolbar#/home/welcome

Taken in October 2015. Properly known as Limonium, a genus of 120 flower species. Members are also known as sea lavender, statice, or marsh-rosemary. Despite their common names, species are not related to the lavenders or to rosemary. They are instead in Plumbaginaceae, the plumbago or leadwort family. A most useful feature is being able to pick and dry them without losing their colour.

These have been out of water for several days, giving me my own tame floral arrangement which can be admired or photographed as desired. Some fill in light has been provided by a cheap (5 GBP) but surprisingly powerful LED torch. Taken with the 100mm f2.0 Zeiss Makro Planar lens converted to a Sony A mount with a Leitax bayonet.

Flickr's new Yahoo! toolbar is simply amazing!

It is elegant, beautifully designed, and match so well with the photo page.

The purple Y! logo is just ... classic, fantastic!

It contains all the functionalities that I dreamed of.

For example, the first thing that I want to do when opening the flickr page is to check the weather or play games.

And there it is! the weather button! and wow! games buttun!

Insanely great!

Shot with a Beroflex 400mm f 6.3 prime on a Pentax K3 with some additional footage from a Mokomura 400mm f6.3. The Beroflex is from around 1980 has 13 blades. The chromatic aberration has been kept, which for the Beroflex equated to a tight crimson line, and for the Mokomura a softer blue green line. The lens are both Japanese. The Mokomura has 18 or so aperture blades and produced interesting bokeh at all apertures. The 'Mo' is added and it is from the Komura name which is well respected. I've a 'new' copy of the Beroflex, and when contrasted with the Mokomura or, for example a Tiar 3 or a long Takumar, it comes across more like a hoover tube than a solid lens, and has a 'give' to the structure that is as unsettling as a rusty boat before a storm. It's not as well balanced as the Tair on the tripod but is fast to focus and the results are not without charm. The Mokomura needs a heavy tripod to remain in balance with the 1,200 gram lens attached to the mid point of the lens. Manual focus lenses can be a real pain if you shoot birds, and by the time a Tair 3 or Mokomura 400mm is focused, the bird is probably dead - with the Beroflex you have a real chance of capturing a little blur. Despite all of the 'flex', the Beroflex had few flair issues and came up with some really nice bokeh with a smallest aperture of f32. The Mokomura is a time consuming lens to work with but a poetic gift for bokeh lovers. The Pentax K3 captor had problems keeping up with the light and there are issues of noise - but I did shoot with normal settings rather than easing the load by turning saturation and co' down. The music is a segment from the 1974 recording of 'Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ'. There are a number of great versions of this work, but I opted for one close to its date of origin. As always Photoshop but no rendering.

A lens test for the Mir 1 37mm prime from the early 1970s. The lens formula was inspired by the Carl Zeiss Flektogon which is a touch wider at 35mm, so it was not a machine replica. The lens is well known for its flare, which is often visible during this test without being utterly obvious - mainly at the beginning. To get the flare no lens hood was used. There are six lenses in five groups and 8 aperture blades that remain pretty circular. There is an aperture preset ring which can be left at f16 to let the second flow smoothly through the stops. This is silent and an therefore a serious advantage for filming and situations where micro adjustments between stops can help. At 37mm the lens is perhaps more about flare than bokeh, not as relaxed or light finding as a Takumar 35mm, but solid and a provider of interesting results. An M39 mount so needs a step up ring to M42.

The music is by the French artist Camille, whose spirit of experimentation of subject, song armature and ornamentation has placed her on the top-table of artists. The dynamic range of her voice has yet to be matched in the world of optics? Parts of the record were recorded at la Chapelle du Pin, which is in the same broad area as the waterfall in this test.

Press the 'Go' and then type 'L' to enlarge. It loops. Press the 'Escape' key to return. The "L" stands for 'lightbox" for anyone who has one in a back room. If you want to remove the toolbar then press f11. Escape gets you back, but you still need to press f11 another time to get your menu back - otherwise a fuddle can start. These are the same shortcuts for viewing any photo on Flickr, but the added loop function from "L" is cool for short clips.

IMAGE INFO

- Viewpoint is looking south from Bream Street at a position just east of Arden Street towards the 800m long "Figure Eight" at Coogee (part of the entertainment facilities owned by the Palace Aquarium managers).

- I have dated the image to circa Dec 1910, since

(a) The first substantial Coogee Surf Life Saving Club house was built in 1910 & is clearly visible here &,

(b) The Figure Eight had already closed down by January 1912 & was demolished completely by Feb 1912.

- The "Figure Eight" amusement ride was widely advertised & very popular for the first few years after it first opened in October 1907. However, waning economic conditions in the lead up to WW1 resulted in it being closed & demolished by February 1912.

- An extract of an article titled "RIVAL SEASIDE RESORTS" in the Sydney Morning Herald dated 10 Oct 1907 (page 11) describes the "Figure Eight Railway" ride at Coogee thus: "Briefly described, this "spasm producer" is a varlety of the switch-back on a more complicated scale, and provides an undulating rush along cliff levels for a distance of half a mile. The management guarantees the safety of the four passengers in each of the eight motor-car-shaped trucks. At night over 1000 incandescent electric lights will Illuminate the track in such a manner that the trip will be made through an archway of light. After reaching the starting platform at an altitude of about 70ft or 80ft the cars travel In obedience to the laws of gravitation, and several times describe the figure 8." :0)

I have had to succumb to corel. I am now using a trial on corel paintshop 2019 - which is not so very different from corel pro 9. I have spent the latter part of the affternoon trying to organize the toolbars and palettes into something like a familiar form.

Here Elsie is adding a black pipecleaner spider to her hat (now that is scary!)

Taken in October 2015. A very brisk and chilly wind from the North East driving the waves on to the harbour wall, the tide coming in and a dark sky. Turner's depiction of boats off nearby Ramsgate Harbour (www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/turner-ramsgate-d18150) is rather more lively than this but we try our best.
