Hope you all have a good weekend.

HFF!

Oh, I've got the new toolbar thing, cool! Also, Explore is different - there are even some decent shots in it. I wonder if they've revamped the algorithm.

Taken in August 2014. A rather run down building but hopefully it will be renovated in due course, although it may not make such a good subject then,

Best if you press L to view in Flickr's Lightbox and F11 to remove the toolbars.

At least Flickr is back to normal.

I was using GIMP, and the shape of my toolbar changed. Why? Who knows.

At least when I shut down my computer, it went back to the normal shape.

I can't wait till fall! But it might be late and short, too hot!

A very merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous and healthy New Year to all Flickr members. Taken in London's well known Trafalgar Square; the Christmas tree is an annual gift from the people of Norway.

Thanks also to those who have visited my photostream, made much appreciated comments and marked them as favourites

Christmas greetings go better if you press L to view in Flickr's Lightbox and F11 to remove the toolbars.

Dear Flickr friends these are the different ways to avoid Beta.

If you change the language on the bottom of the page to anything but English Beta design vanishes. Its back to "normal".

Spanish works for me. The site controls are in Spanish but all the rest is in whatever language it was typed in. You can use French, Spanish, Italian, etc. but just NOT ENGLISH! Because the changed to Beta was official on Tuesday of last week for English speaking members. Good luck! Pass it on!

Another solution by using FIREFOX:

2.In Add-ons search for the add-on below in the browser.

To get the old page back, this works;

If you are using Firefox download add-on RANDOM AGENT SPOOFER.

Once you have its icon on a toolbar left click and choose firefox 21(win732).

Make sure the icon turns blue and reload the photo page you are on, and away you go.

Disable when not on Flickr.

But Trailr doesn't work and also I don't have the award counter working right now.

California.

Keeping it simple.

I just downloaded geektools last night and was playing with it up until 2-3 in the morning. At first I wanted to clutter the whole desktop with activity monitors, traffic photos, a custom wallpaper, etc. I decided on keeping it functional and simple.

- Hid the dock on the bottom which pulls up when I hover the mouse over the bottom of the screen.

- Kept the time on the top right without the day showing... Since it's on the desktop :)

- The weather is there just so I don't have to open iGoogle (my dashboard w/ widgets.)

- I removed the spotlight icon using a terminal tip found here.

- I added the GrowlTunes (found here) so I can just use my MBP's function controls (F7-F9) to flip through tracks.

- Google Notifier (found here) so I don't have open iGoogle and it 'pushes' my email and calendar events right on my desktop, growl style.

- The uptime on the bottom left of the screen is just there so I can glance at how long I can keep the MBP up without rebooting. No real purpose other then that.

Taken in November 2014. A very 'quiet' day for weather and also for people, making it most pleasant to wander around absorbing the atmosphere and taking a few snaps.

Lots and lots of people have asked me how I do these, which I find extremely flattering, so I tried to write up a tutorial.

You sort of have to know your way around Photoshop a little, but not too much. I use CS1, so some Elements users and earlier versions users may not have all of the features, that doesn't mean you can't do this though. We just have to find a more "old school" way. If you'd like to try this and run into a stumbling block, let me know and I'll help work it out...

Thanks for all the good vibes on this series everyone!!!!!

1. Take a good photo. No amount of photoshop "fixes" a crap photo. It all starts with good composition.

2. Fiddle around with the image to get everything "just so". Beef up the contrast. Over the top contrast is pretty good here.

3. Add a gradient map adjustment layer (layer > new adjustment layer > gradient map). Click OK on the first box and on the second box, double click on the gradient bar to bring up the gradient editor. You can make any gradient you want here. Play around. My gradient has 100% black to the far left and 0% white on the far right. About 1/3 of the way in from the left I but in a nice warm brown color stop along the bottom. This gives me a real nice sepia effect. This is a good place to stop if you just want sepia, but what fun is that?

4. In the layers palate, select the layer mask on the gradient map layer.

5. In the toolbar, select the brush tool. Make sure the brush is set with soft edges. Vary the size using the bracket keys [ ] and vary the opacity using the number keys. On a 240 dpi image a radius of 500 and an opacity of 30% is a good place to start. Make sure your foreground color is set to black.

6. Now play. Be an artist. Gradually paint away parts of the image to reveal the color underneath. You can be very selective and only paint away small pieces for that selective color look or you can paint broadly for nice mute color throughout. It's up to you. Try different brush sizes. Different opacities. If you do something you don't like, switch the foreground color to white and paint back the sepia layer. Each image is different. You really just have to play and be patient.

7. Next is a "sometimes step". Add a vignette. Go to layer > new fill layer > gradient. Hit OK. In the gradient fill dialog, set a black to transparent gradient, choose radial, play with the angle and scale and check the reverse box.

8. In the layers palate, change the mode to overlay, move this layer below the gradient map layer to get the sepia effect and select the layer mask.

9. Using the same masking technique as above, paint away vignette until it feels right and isn't too heavy handed. Again, every image is different. Play around.

10. Now for the soft, dreamlike feel. This is really more to get soften some of the distracting parts. Like the high contrast in the grass and trees...

11. In the layers palate, link all of your layers together and from the drop down menu, choose new set from linked.

12. Duplicate this layer set then from the drop down menu, choose merge layer set. Now you should have a composite layer and have all of your other layers intact.

13. Make sure the composite layer is selected and choose filter > blur > gaussian blur. A radius of 20-25 on a 240dpi image works well.

14. In the layers palate, lower the opacity of the blur layer to about 40%. Ahhhhhh, nice and soft, but I still like parts of my image to be sharp to draw the eye. So I add another layer mask to show the original layers underneath.

15. With the blur layer selected, go to layer > add layer mask > reveal all or just click the add layer mask button on the layers palate. Repeat the drill we did above with black as the foreground and with a big fuzzy brush set to a low opacity. Brush away the parts you want sharp until it looks like you want...

16. Flatten, save and post to flickr!!!!

Hope this is helpful. I've never really done a tutorial before, so ya know....

Another Flickr Bucket Test and it is forced upon me without asking. This time it is not as bad as the previous one which resulted in weeks of Flickr being unusable. This time there is this stupid Yahoo toolbar running above the Flickr toolbar. Now, I have paid for a Pro account which means an ad-free browsing experience - or so they promised us. Now they have this awful 1990s style Yahoo toolbar there.

I never use Yahoo for anything except for Flickr. This just sucks and honestly, it just means I will boycott Yahoo at all costs seeing as it is forced upon me.

Taken in December 2014. Looking upstream and probably the peak of the ice on the river that I saw during the trip. The domes of church of St. Peter and St. Paul can be seen between the trees. Along the river bank are some Soviet era buildings but the whole area seemed to be under development as the location is a very attractive one and very close to the city centre as well.

•The truth about Yosemite: www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Sexual-Harassment-Common-in...

Yes, snow in April again. This image I used my traditional techniques. I took 9 images in RAW format, in 1 increment stops. Stability is crucial; I use a wireless shutter release and carbon fiber tripod. The composition was achieved with the tripod at its lowest position. With many of my images; I’m lying in a prone position along a riverbank or lake, standing in water, on rocks, logs, anything to get that in your face perspective. This was taken at sunrise as the sun was breaking the ridgeline on the right. The fog was a nice bonus.

Editing; I used Photomatix Pro 5 to layer the nine images. This is done in RAW format and I used default tonemapping. Photomatix can be used as a standalone application or as a Lightroom and Photoshop plugin. I use it as a standalone; so I don’t fill my Lightroom backup with a bunch of unused images. I’ll preview the images in Nikon View NX2, save the ones I want to use in a Windows folder. I load them from that folder into Photomatix. I highlight the 9 images, click open and I’m on my way. Photomatix Pro 5 has some great presets; I mostly use the default to layer them pretty much as they are and save in Tiff format to keep as much data as possible. There are color, contrast and sharpening tools on board, but I use those mostly in NIK Collection. Photmatix saves the image in the same folder. I’ll take the fused image, save it in another folder titled Fused and date. That folder I open in Lightroom; to prevent repetitive storage copies.

In Lightroom 5.7, I’ll crop if needed, then I’ll start with NIK Collection (I use it as a plugin, it can also be used as a standalone). I’ll use Lightroom toolbar, click on photo, click on edit in and it list all the NIK Collection options. I’ll first select Color Efex Pro; it has great presets with major adjustment tools. I’ll 1st select the Contrast; it has some of the best Highlight and Shadow adjustments I’ve worked with. If not for their highlight slide; the upper 3rd of this image would have been blown out. I’ll tweak the Dynamic range, add a little Polarization if need and blam, I’m back in Lightroom. With lightroom; I’ll adjust the Exposure (if needed), add a little Clarity and Vibrance, maybe a little Vignette and save. Once saved; I’ll open it in Gimp 2.8, do my Logo (TI_in_Yosemite), layer it on the image, save as jpg and load this bad puppy onto Flickr. It sounds like a lot of work, but once you do it a few times the workflow is very fast.

With my last post “9”, I knew there would be retaliation; it’s pretty much expected when I speak the truth. The next day (after posting) there were employees at work talking about guns (Street Theater). When I got home; Dumb and Dumber were in the parking lot, waiting to expose me to second hand cigarette smoke, as I walk to my building. As I walk down my hallway; one of my neighbors had his door open, talking loudly with a group of young males. I would normally say young men, but that would indicate a level of maturity and they possess none. They kept repeating the word bullet; again Street Theater pertaing to my post “9”. I doubt if they knew the difference from a 124 grain +P, bonded hollow point and a 147 grain, jacketed hollow point.

At work they’ve really picked up the harassment; being a Targeted Individual I expect it. There using a couple of young females, to play the defenseless young woman card. Again, I would normally say young women, but that would indicate some level of maturity and they possess none. One of them recently under investigation for theft, the other a big girl, that probably bullied kids throughout her school years.

Over the years my coworkers have left their lockers open at work; this is in a narrow hallway. The lockers left open were above and beside mine, to make it difficult for me to put or remove my gear. A while back an employee was rushing into the narrow hallway; I stepped to the side out of his way. As I stepped to the side, it was right into an open locker. The corner caught my rib, broke the skin and left a big bruise. I didn’t say anything at the time, but when I got home I realized how bad it was. I started politely asking my coworkers to close their lockers, told them my rib caught the corner of one. Then instead of 2-3 lockers being left open; there were 5-7 lockers being intentionally open. I spoke to a supervisor; told them what happened and asked if they could speak to the employees. I was ridiculed for walking into a locker and the harassment continued, every time I’d go to my locker 5-7 lockers would be left wide open to protrude into the hallway, the lockers above, to the right and left of mine left open. I continued the issue, stated it is a safety issue. Then a senior manager came in, ridiculed and belittled me in front of my coworkers. Now I have the 2 young females leaving their lockers open every day, in my face all day, hoping I say something so I can be disciplined. Meanwhile employees walk around saying “crazy” all day. They don’t care if others are affected; many times there are. Guest and their children are exposed to their second hand cigarette smoke, butts and ashes, their foul language, loud obnoxious behavior, intentionally leaving trash and defacing National Park Property. As long as they are harassing their target; everyone looks away.

I’m a mature man, not meaning to complain. These acts are just a few that are carried out every day, 24/7, by my coworkers and neighbors. I stand up for myself; endure these immoral and illegal acts as best as I can. This happens to Targets every day, many unable to cope. No person should have to live like this, but millions do any given week. Gang Stalking, Community Stalking and Workplace Mobbing are real; they are not Conspiracy Theories, they are proven facts. In the United States today; if at work you don’t follow the statuesque of doing as little as possible, to generate the highest profit, if you expose corporate or government corruption, if you upset someone with power, you will be Targeted in one way or another.

Gang Stalking, Community Stalking and Workplace Mobbing are Psychological Torture. These illegal and immoral acts are carried out by residents and contractors, in Yosemite National Park every day; while Yosemite’s Superintendent and Law Enforcement look away.

was cleaning out my inventory and accidentally hit the camera button on my toolbar, didnt hate it ♥

hi :)

sorry for getting rid of the other one-- i realized i uploaded it for the mere sake of uploading, and that's something i don't want to make a habit of.

i also wanted to break my square crop streak so i wouldn't feel like every picture from now onward had to be cropped like that. so here's to change :)

by the way, i processed this in 2 clicks (excluding the click for the menu/toolbar/loading button)

hope you like it!

In a complete reversal from the previous project, I'm uploading a small number of images from a recent, but very wet, afternoon spent exploring the remains of the quarries and tramlines behind Hay Tor. There are several old quarries on Dartmoor, and it's encouraging to see what a good job nature can do of reclamation. For those who don't know, granite used to be moved from here to the Stover Canal, 10 miles downhill via a granite tramway (which opened in 1820) using gravity to transport the full trucks down and horses to pull the empty trucks back up. From Stover the granite was taken via canal to the quayside at Teignmouth, a further journey of around 8 miles. It's now possible to walk the full 18 mile route via the Templer Way, something I hope to do in the next few months.

I'm starting with a panoramic image to put the next handful of photos into their environmental context. It's best viewed at original size, and if you then press F11 to get rid of the toolbar you should get most of the height on your screen. For anyone interested, this pano is a merging of 14 vertical images taken with the 24mm end of my 12-24mm lens.

The main quarry can be seen (lumpy, surrounded by walking paths) below the tor. The lines of the tramway can be seen at the far right (sweeping in, just below some ponies on the horizon) and far left, from where it starts to take a dip on its long sweep downhill.

Because King is the last vestige of green north of urban centres, its a favourite for fall / autumn colour drives, cycling, hiking and of course photography. Been playing I.T. for the last number of weeks.

Just some simple advice to all users:

It would be sagacious to read what is being installed rather than blindly clicking "NEXT" as additional software is being added onto the machine. I can't seem to stress this advice to the colleagues. Not all freeware is bad, but there are plenty that contain adware, toolbars and other shit that no one wants or needs. Express installers seem like a quick and "easy" way to install a new application, but the garbage will accompany the intended application in the end. It's like when someone offers you a handful of Toblerone triangles, mixed in with bits of black licorice, you're not gonna eat them both at once! You pick out the shitty black licorice and eat the delicious chocolate. Am I right? Please, custom install.

Also, I wish people would back up their data. Ladies and gentlemen, there are clouds at our disposal. CLOUDS!

Just playing with the Photomatix HDR software ... which I sort of forgot I had because the alias fell off my toolbar sometime over the winter. This was a single RAW image converted into the HDR format. Not the best way to do it. Image taken at Rockefeller Park Greenhouse a couple months ago.

Taken in October 2015. One of the fine beech trees that grow on the Greensand Ridge.

Best if you press L to view in Flickr's Lightbox and F11 to remove the toolbars.

I've not been a very good Flickr friend of late and I apologize. The reality is that its not going to get better for many weeks. Packing all day every day like a fiend getting ready for the movers on the 2nd to take things to storage and then the 9th to move into the new house ... and going it alone - grrrrmph!!! Kids are nowhere to be found and I'm having to do their rooms as well as the rest of the house. Think I'll be ready for a BIG holiday in the spring!! Take care all and Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends.

Should really be viewed LARGER.

The young sapling turned first and the larger ones on the horizon are just starting. Thought it made a nice shot. I've got a few more and then I'm again for a while to pack, move and get settled. I'll make a few appearances but not sure how active I can be in the next 6 weeks or so. Don't give up on me!! Should really be viewed larger .
