Taken in January 2009. Climbing out of Elterwater to get a view of Grasmere, I was lucky to get some interesting light up Langdale and on the Pikes.
Best if you View On Black and certainly needs to be seen large for which you may need to press F11 to remove the toolbar.
Taken in December 2013. Matfield is a pleasant little place with the traditional village green and duck pond which this cottage overlooks. Sadly, views of the whole terrace are affected by the curse of the parked car. It looks like this one could do with some internal work but I expect, such is the desirable location, that in the nearly two years between taking and upload, it will now be as new.
Best if you press L to view in Flickr's Lightbox and F11 to remove the toolbars.

EXPLORE #49 - thank you friends. King Township is a rural community minutes north of Toronto located on the protected Oak Ridges Moraine and the last vestige of green north of the cities. It is known for thoroughbred horses, prized cattle and for cycling, hiking and summer / fall / autumn colours drives for urbanites. Currently under assault from developers, King is about to undergo a not so nice (in my humble opinion) metamorphoses in the next 10 years.
I really appreciate all of you so much ... having trouble juggling life with 2 showings a day so don't be mad at me if I mess up and don't get to your photo to comment. Just trying to keep up and its hard to do absolute justic to eveyone and everything. I do my best but sometimes its just not enough ... but can't give up Flickr (my sanity) either.

Late in the afternoon on the last day in March 2009, I walked into Bryant Park, which is located behind the New York Public Library, between 41st and 42nd Street, facing Avenue of the Americas. There were several people reading and basking in the sun, a couple people typing on their laptop computers, and one chess game underway. I spent about half an hour wandering around to see what looked photo-worthy, and then wandered off to get some dinner...
This woman was typing away on a laptop computer ... alas, it was not an Apple Powerbook. But maybe she doesn't know any better. Just think: if she had been typing on a Mac, her photo probably would have been published a thousand times by now!

EXPLORED
On my way to Dinajpur tour, I found this beetle infront of roadside restaurant, they just put it there as a display. Its registration got expired on 2001 and the poor beetle found its place off the road as a show for the highway passerby. I always liked beetles; they are impressive no matter what’s their condition.
Instead of taking single shot, I made HDR of this colourful legend. Hope you guys will like it.
Tips and tricks about HDR
HDR means High Dynamic Range and High Dynamic Range Imaging ( HDRI ) is a set of techniques allowing to capture a greater dynamic exposures( range of values between light and dark areas )than normal imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows.
This is how this image was shot
Camera: Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8
Exposure: 3 different exposures using canon’s AEB function(check your manual) in raw format. They were then combined into one image using Photomatix software.
Aperture: f/7.1 (for more clear image set it f/11)
Shooting mode: Manual exposure
Shutter speed: 1/125
Focal Length: 50mm
ISO Speed: 100
Use a tripod for clear shots; I used hand held because I had no choice.
● Shoot interesting subject with camera well focused & aperture greater then f/11 to f/22 which will give a clear image without any depth of field. Make sure your canon’s AEB function is on. When you turn it on, three consecutive shots will give three different exposed pictures. We need those three shots. Since three of the shots will be combined into one picture, it’s important that you retain same camera position in these three shots.
● Now if you have Photomatrix already, click on its Generate function to combine 3 of those images to one HDR image. If you don’t have Photomatrix, download it from here www.hdrsoft.com . this software is not free, however you can download the evaluating version for free. Try it before you are purchasing it.
● After Photomatrix generates HDR image, it wont look glamour’s, you need to play with the Tone Mapping function a bit for different colour. Click on HDR | Tone Mapping, along the top toolbar and use the following settings to start with:
Luminosity 0
Strength 46
ColorSaturation 68
WhiteClip 0.25
BlackClip 0.00000
Smoothing High
Microcontrast High
360Image No
After that, you save it in your pc in TIF format(this keeps much colour information than JPG format.
● Open your saved TIF version of HDR to your adobe photoshop. Here you apply some adjustments like curves, shadow / highlight and sharpening. You can also add frames or use different actions to give your HDR the way you think it looks cool.
HDR images totally depend on the artist about its looks. Its totally an explosion of colours. Don’t feel afraid of trying different settings of the software.
A good place to check out the HDR images in this HDR GROUP and check out their discussions there .

So I was taking a "photo walk" around my neighborhood and I noticed this interesting concrete sculpture in front of a building and, of course, stopped to take a few pix. A couple days later, I was at a Photoshop lecture (via the LAPUG - Los Angeles Photoshop User Group) and learned a new tool/technique I wanted to try out. The two -- sculpture and technique -- seemed made for each other since the original photo was a bit dull (see first image below). I'm sure many of you already know this technique but for those who don't, here goes ...
NOTE: This works exactly the same in Photoshop Elements. In fact, I use PSE 9 myself!
This is a painting technique which allows you to color an object without losing it's texture or pattern or details!
1. Select an object whose color you would like to change (and it doesn't matter what color it is in the first place; it could be red or blue or whatever).
2. Set the foreground color to whatever you wish and select a brush.
3. Change the mode on the PS horizontal toolbar to either hue or color (more on which in a minute).
4. Paint away!
You'll see that only the color of the object will change, not its details; whereas if you leave the mode in normal, you'll change the color but it will hide all detail in the object. You could, of course, do your painting on a blank layer and then change the opacity of that layer to see the underlying detail, but you'll lose the vibrancy of the color.
Hue versus color. As far as I can tell, if the object is filled with saturated color in the first place, such as a red shirt, either of those modes will work fine; but if the object's color is not saturated (such as the concrete I was trying to paint), color works better. What hue does is mimic the saturation level of the underlying color: if it's faint, then the painted result will also be faint.
Pretty cool, huh :-)? I hope some of you have fun with this technique if you haven't tried it before!
Oh, I almost forgot ... when I was finished painting the concrete sculpture (see second photo below), I thought the result was still pretty uninteresting so I played with a bunch of filters (using FilterForge) and overlays till I got something I liked.
... hi ho the dario a hiking we will go. Can you see the racoon imprints at this little random, puddle watering hole? Taken at Happy Valley, King Township, Ontario.
Missing you guys like crazy ... but life has been really batty. Thought that I would at least get time to go through your photostreams, but couldn't pull that off either. Thanks for not deleting me as a contact!!!
The house sold and I've got to December 10th to find a new home, sort through stuff, pack and get the kids settled, so I don't think I'll do much better in the next little while. Don't give up on me though.

Well, it seems like that, anyway - but I should not be complaining. The new computer got installed, and by last night I was able to make comments. Today came the problem of moving photos from the old computer to this new one. I managed to move this one, chosen at random, via a thumb drive.
The problems involve finding and doing the old familiar things - like putting Flickr on some kind of toolbar for quick access.
Advice welcome! We're running Windows 8.1.

In 1839 Samuel Thomas Gill arrived with his family in Adelaide after sailing from England. By the mid-1850s he had established himself as one of Australia's most popular artists with many of his sketches published as lithographs. The discovery of gold opened up the country for new towns and caused unprecedented growth in Melbourne and Sydney.
Gill's work covers this vibrant period in Australia's history with an immediacy and feeling for people and place which others missed. Although he spent most of his life in Victoria he visited Sydney for a year in 1855.

Another Flickr Bucket Test and it is forced upon me without asking. This time it is not as bad as the previous one which resulted in weeks of Flickr being unusable. This time there is this stupid Yahoo toolbar running above the Flickr toolbar. Now, I have paid for a Pro account which means an ad-free browsing experience - or so they promised us. Now they have this awful 1990s style Yahoo toolbar there.
I never use Yahoo for anything except for Flickr. This just sucks and honestly, it just means I will boycott Yahoo at all costs seeing as it is forced upon me.

The corn came out of the field across from our house in just a few hours thanks to this lean mean corn pickin' shelling machine.
Back in the mid '70's when we went to planting 24 rows, we custom built our planter using a custom Kinze forward folding toolbar and attaching White "Seed Boss" planter units at 36" row spacing. We had one of the first White 9700 axial-flow combines sold in the midwest. Due to the fact that White did not make a 12 row corn head wide enough for 36" rows, we used an 8 row head and upped the gearing as much as we possible to increase the capacity of the head. Even then the rotor was capable of a lot more than we could feed it. Even if we would have been able to shell the corn faster we wouldn't have been able to haul it away fast enough.
Now 45 years later it isn't uncomment to see 32 row planters and 16 row corn heads on combines that can shell over 4 bushel per second.
The Case IH 9240 used across the road from my house is capable of shelling 5,000 bushels of corn per hour. It was practically unloading corn continuously on the go into large capacity grain carts, only shutting off the unloading auger to make the turn at the end of the field. Once one cart was full another slipped in beside the combine and started taking on corn, while the other cart headed for the waiting semi to unload. When the semi was loaded it headed out of the field and another took its place. That all continued for a few hours until the field was done. Then they headed on to another field. I love harvest.
