Copper halfpenny token from England dated 1792. The British mint did not strike any official copper coinage from 1776 to 1796, which led private issuers to strike their own unofficial small change, often advertising local businesses. This piece advertises Donald & Co., Stocking Manufacturers Wholesale and Retail, with offices in Nottingham and Birmingham. Instead of showing the company's actual product, the token depicts a busy beehive, a symbol of industriousness.
