Today, April 15th, was the anniversary of the Titanic sinking in 1912. There were wreaths laid out at the foot of the Titanic Memorial here in Washington, DC. This memorial was dedicated to the men who gave up their seats in the lifeboats so that the women and children could live.

These beautiful ladies were getting ready to board the Titanic. The Jones Mansion celebrates the maiden voyage of the R.M.S Titanic every year. This year was another sold out event with people coming from 3 states to attend. This year I took my Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash with me and photographed some of the quests and staff. Although the Brownie Hawkeye is not period correct for the sailing of the Titanic it still looked good and people loved the idea of being photographed with it.

Processed in the new Lab-Box.

Film: Fuji Acros 100, Processed in Xtol stock. 68 degrees, 8 miinutes in the Lab-Box with 490ml of chemistry and constant but very gentle agitation. I did not compensate time for the constant agitation. The negatives were perfect.

Amsterdam EXPO haalt 'Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition' naar Nederland

Bezoekersinformatie

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is vanaf donderdag 14 november 2013 open voor publiek.

Titanic Belfast, my third large scale build for Bright Bricks. Currently on display at the The Titanic Belfast Museum as part of the Brick City Lego tour.

This was the most technically difficult build I have undertaken to date, it took me approximately 4 weeks to complete. Two weeks talking to the architect, deciphering the technical plans, figuring out the angles and to build the base/ground floor. One week to build the façade panels. And finally one week putting the whole thing together in a Perspex box in the middle of a busy shopping centre in Belfast.

As per usual with this type of build I had plenty of help and advice from the Bright Bricks team.

WIP photos can be seen on my Mocpage .

Titanic’s Maiden Voyage

:

Sunday 14th April 1912 :

Weather is clear, calm and very cold by this evening. Despite a serie of messages from other ships (such as SS Californian) warning of drifting ice, the ship struck an iceberg on starboard and the impact produced a huge opening in the hull.

Titanic Belfast is a visitor attraction and a monument to Belfast's maritime heritage on the site of the former Harland & Wolff shipyard in the city's Titanic Quarter where the RMS Titanic was built. It tells the stories of the ill-fated Titanic, which hit an iceberg and sank during her maiden voyage in 1912, and her sister ships RMS Olympic and HMHS Britannic.

This is my latest eBay purchase: a duplicate picture of Titanic autographed by one of the two last living survivors. Millvina Dean was only 2 months old at the time, making her the youngest passenger on board.

April 15th marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. last night I was watching the memorial services from Halifax and from the SS Balmoral which was at station over the wreck site of the Titanic. The ceremonies were very moving. It's amazing to think what happened in those cold waters 100 years ago. It really impacted me as well because I had signed up to live feeds over Twitter that recreated the tragedy by sending out tweets describing the major events that were happening at that time 100 years ago. It was moving to read about the vessels that warned Titanic, and how her captain tried to avoid ice by going further south than normal but failed to reduce speed. A horrible even that could have been avoided.

I've been fascinated by the Titanic story since I was in university, many years before the film and the discovery of the wreck. I guess for me working on a degree there was something attractive in reading about another great tragedy! I've never been on a live cruise ship or liner, but I have been on the Queen Mary hotel, which was built only a few years after the Titanic and much like Titanic was built in the media spotlight and carried it's nation's hopes and dreams. So to mark the 100th anniversary of the Titanic, here is a new shot of the Queen Mary from my archives. This is from 2008. While the Titanic rests in a watery bed, here is the Queen Mary basking in the Long Beach sun; not all stories have to end sadly!
