Tip of Borneo, where the Sulu Sea meets South China Sea, Beautiful!

Measuring a black tip shark. This black tip shark had a fork length of about 1300 mm (or about 51 inches; 4 ft. 3 inches). The fork length is the length of the shark from nose to the fork in the middle of the tail and it is a common measurement used to study fish. At a little over 4 ft. this is a relatively large black tip shark and likely weighed between 80 and 90 pounds.

I managed a trip over to Lewes Downs in East Sussex to see my first ever Burn-tip Orchid at the weekend. They were half the size I was expecting and took a while to find.

This Orange-tip is nectaring on Cow Parsley, please correct me if wrong. In this very changeable weather the Orange-tips here seem to be sitting tight in the cold wind until the sun comes out giving me a chance to get some shots with the wings fully open before charging off in search of a mate.

This black tip shark was caught on a hook that already had a smaller sharpnose shark on it (notice the back half of the sharpnose is missing). This clearly shows that sharks will often prey on other sharks. Sharks of this size are very strong and require focus, strength, and cooperation to safely handle on deck.

Victoria, the capital city of the Canadian province of British Columbia, is on the southern tip of Vancouver Island off Canada's Pacific coast. The city has a population of 85,792, while the metropolitan area of Greater Victoria has a population of 383,360, making it the 15th most populous Canadian metropolitan area. The city of Victoria is the 7th most densely populated city in Canada with 4,405.8 people per square kilometre, which is a greater population density than Toronto, Ontario. Victoria is the southernmost major city in Western Canada, and is about 100 kilometres (60 miles) from British Columbia's largest city of Vancouver on the mainland. Named after Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and, at the time, British North America, Victoria is one of the oldest cities in the Pacific Northwest, with British settlement beginning in 1843. The city has retained a large number of its historic buildings, in particular its two most famous landmarks, Legislative buildings (finished in 1897 and home of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia) and the Empress hotel (opened in 1908).
