Shutter release lever, high speed accelerating spring pin (seems to provide additional force when 1/400 gets engadged). Timer lever and pin pushed by speed selector dial.
Timer does not work (the lever wont stay cocked). But it seems that it does not propose any danger to normal shutter operation.

This remote timer provides me with a number of features that I find useful:
1.When I have the camera mounted on a tripod and I want to eliminate the possibility of camera shake when I press the shutter release button, I can use this device like I would use an old-fashioned cable release.
2.Some of my cameras have a built-in self-timer. However, the longest time I can set on the self-timer is 10 or 20 seconds. Also, the built-in self-timer will only delay one shot. If I need a self-timer longer than 10 or 20 seconds and/or I need to delay more than a single shot, I can use this device. With this device, I can delay an exposure for up to 100 hours and I can use it to delay multiple shots.
3.The feature I find most useful is the intervalometer. I have used this feature on a number of occasions to set up my camera to take a photo every six minutes over a 10-hour period.

Although they put a lot of energy into their performance, I hope the UK Government doesn't get the idea of installing banks of these egg timers / hour glasses in every town and city as alternative energy sources, otherwise it will be back to thr middle ages and treadmills!

Thursday 27-08-1998 at 12:50 - MY DUTY AS A TOTON DRIVER - Standing on the Up Loop at Milford, South Yorkshire at signal M688 ahead 7D49 15:20 Milford to Toton with coal traffic for Willington Power Station. I've just attached the loco and had a brake test done on the 24 MGR hoppers.
this is a prototype of electric sandglass timer, i made.
photo interrupter detect sand dropping, the detect pulse into pin2 for external interrupt.
no interrupt input keep 1sec, then servo motor will shake the bell.
I was going to try it with the self-timer but it would have been iffy. Luckily a nice woman offered to push the shutter button and we got to walk safely the whole way out there :^)
Cassidy Arch is an old friend, I got one of my favorite "this is a big arch" photos up there two years ago.
To commemorate the occasion, we brought pizza again.
