Another not so great photo, but it's the only one I had that included bassist Jim Glennie - and Tim Booth's toque! Woot, toque!
James, my favorite band of all time, kicked off their U.S. tour in Boston, and I was there. *joy*

Tim Booth performing live in Istanbul at Refresh the Venue. After completing their performance, the crowd started cheering for more...
And they rewarded their fans with two of their greatest hits, Laid and Getting Away with It...

Oh nostalgia! I had a great time at James last night (thanks again Faithdesired). I was remembering how when I was 14 years old, I would be on the phone with one of my first boyfriends watching and rewatching that Laid video in the background. Oh Tim Booth was so attractive then with his long long hair. And I remember thinking, "I should dump this guy " (that I was on the phone with) "because I bet he'd never put on a dress and vacuum for me."
This may all be a little too much information, I don't know. It's been a long week and I feel like CRAP right now. And yet, I'm still going to do Critical Mass tonight, shoot My Bloody Valentine tomorrow, Nick Cave on Sun. (hopefully, nothing will go wrong-these two are SO SO important to me)
Right now, I am drinking coffee because I am such a caffeine fiend lately and listening to Nick Cave's Dig Lazarus Dig which my friend Sei Jin bought me (thanks Sei Jin!)
Love,
Kirstie
p.s. I'll likely erase all the above ramble scramble when I make this public but lucky you flickr friends, you have the benefit of reading it (what a joy lol)

James.
The best band ever (in my books).
I discovered them mid career and was immediately taken by the lyrics of Mr. Tim Booth. Laid, Seven and Whiplash were on constant repeat and although I don't have a voice that should be heard outside the shower, I sang every song like my walls were soundproof. Wanting nothing more than to see them live in concert, I waited for a North American concert listing...it never came. My sister and I discussed flying to Europe for a concert several times but sadly the budget would never allow. In 2001, came the announcement that Tim was leaving James and the band was no longer. Dark days, my friends...dark days. Knowing that somehow life would be different if only we could see the band play live, we sulked for 7 years straight. In 2008, the skies opened and the sun shone down. James was getting back together AND coming to Canada!! After cartwheels and hysterical cheering subsided, we bought tickets to two shows, one in Montreal and the other in Toronto. The venue was general admission so we went early to ensure spots close to the stage. What we didn't count on was FRONT FREAKIN' ROW. I'm talking draped across the stage (for both shows). The show. Was. Amazing. Afterwards we took 7 bottles of maple syrup around back of the venue thinking we might catch a glimpse of the band. Not only were 3 of the 7 hanging around out back but we got to chatting them up and after giving them their bottles of Canadian goodness, were then invited backstage to take pics with the rest of the band. HELLS BELLS. Seriously. A great night... the best and the following night we got to do it all over again. Anyway, it's been one year since that craziness happened and I thought I'd post some of the concert pics in celebration. Shot with only a point and shoot, many are fuzzy and out of focus but all really capture the feeling of the nights.
If you aren't familiar with James, check out "All Out To Get You"...it's perfect.

So after many many years i finally saw one of my favorite gruops from a long time ago. I honestly never think they would get back together, much less visit Mexico, much much less take pictures of them. And to make up for that long wait, they played a concert that was a little longer than what they had been playing, so i heard a couple of personal favorites like "ring the bells" and "play dead" and especially "sometimes" which brought tears to my eyes.
these pictures are for my dad, who is also a hug fan.
james is my favourite band in the universe, full stop.
(and apparently a few others feel the same way)
James. :sigh:
Last year I posted an album of photos from the "Hey Ma" tour in 2008 - the first in 7 years. If you perused the collection, you know the back story and about the long wait to finally see the amazing 7 live + our after show experience. Having released a new album, "The Night Before The Morning After", the boys are on the road again and lucky for me, Toronto was a stop on their tour route.
Prior to purchasing tickets, it was announced that the venue in T.O. was seated (Weird, but welcome after 2008. Standing that long for multiple evenings in a row takes it toll. My feet and knees tell me I'm getting older on a daily basis now)
This time around the band decided since they don't come across the pond very often, they would offer a VIP ticket option which allowed you into the afternoon sound check for 4-5 songs with the opportunity for photo taking. With some super speedy mouse clicking action, I score two VIP front row, just left of center seats.
Sound check was fantastic... only about 60 people, all of us along the stage with cameras clicking while belting out songs, flailing around and shouting requests when requested to do so.
The show was... a total experience rather than just seven guys on stage singing to us. We all became part of the show, so much crowd interaction. Nothing will ever measure up to that first time two years ago but this was a very close second. After wards, the band came out to the lounge/bar area of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and mingled with the 40 or so people left chatting up the night. Jim made a brief appearance, Saul, Mark, Dave and Larry greeted old friends, Andy stood and discussed his new folding bike with us while Tim graciously mingled around the room.
Many thanks lads for making music, touring again and making the trek to Canada. Much love.
Memories. :)
My brother went with me to the concert.
Some of these photos were taken by him (the ones with the "G" in the lower right corner.) I'm so glad he went with me -- he's one of my favorite people, and he got maybe 3 hours of sleep that night before work the next day, just so I didn't have to go by myself to see a band he only knows through what he hears when he's here. He's a great guy, to say the least.
