Tim's in the limelight today (or rainbow light!) cos it's his birthday today! Oh, and it's his 64th - queue song!
"When I get older, losing my hair. Many years from now, Will you still be sending me a valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine?
If I'd been out till quarter to three, Would you lock the door? Will you still need me, will you still feed me, When I'm sixty four?" (Lyrics from the Beatles, one of Tim's favourite bands)
Erie, PA. July 2017.

One of my flickr contacts told me I really need to try them while I'm in Canada.
They were gooood, I liked them !
It's the turn of the much anticipated and utterly gorgeous Tim Holtz STAMPtember stamp and stencil set! I have a watercoloured card and a tag to share - here's the card 😃

From writer Jeph Loeb's and artist Tim Sale's vivid re-telling of the birth of one of Batman's greatest foes in The Long Halloween. To be fair Sale's art is fairly polarizing. People either seem to love it or hate it. Personally I like the noir-esque look, and it defnitely adds to the pulp vibe of Loeb's writing style particularly in The Long Halloween
If there was one character from all of literature that I always loved, and to an extent identified with, it would have be the Batman. Its a curious affinity that I can't quite put my finger on. I love the darkness of the character. The regret. The pain. The drive. The obsession. The looming shadow of his past, and how he dons the guise of a demon to fight a bevy of horrendous foes in order to to atone for the murder of his parents.
While my anticipation for The Dark Knight Rises isn't as great as some I did happen to dig all (or most) of my Batman figures out of storage a couple weekends ago. Consider this the first in an artist specific series of shots featuring the World's Greatest Detective not soley as an homage to one story teller, but rather a tribute to the character himself created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger nearly 75 years ago.

Wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie,
O, what a panic's in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty
Wi bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee,
Wi' murdering pattle.
I'm truly sorry man's dominion
Has broken Nature's social union,
An' justifies that ill opinion
Which makes thee startle
At me, thy poor, earth born companion
An' fellow mortal!
33rd Annual Florida Renaissance Festival 2024
Feb-March 2024 - Deerfield Beach, Florida U.S.A.
Tim Fraley is another of the resident character actors with a
very long history at the festival. Reliable and versatile, with a
wardrobe any fashionista would envy. He performs all around
the country as various monarchs and portrays the character of
Rodrigo Borgia the Archbishop of Valencia in a period just before
he becomes Pope Alexander VI, one of the most controversial
Popes in the history of the Papacy. He is a corrupt, drunken, manipulative rogue, and we just love that about him. lol

This is my 17th year covering this fun festival filled with color and pageantry and beautiful people. Each year some of the regulars return and sometimes fresh new faces appear to join the eclectic Renaissance Family. Some are vendors or employees, and some customers dress up to fit in with the renaissance festival fun and its 16th century way of life. One big happy family of a few thousand escaping the dull drums of their daily life for a few hours. This year's crop of new faces was lovely. Hope you enjoy the images. I try to capture their joy. Always fun, festive, very colorful and exciting!
Thank you very much for looking. Have a great day! Hazaaa!!

I created this ATC by crumpling a vintage book page and distressing it with Vintage Photo distress ink and the Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz "Oddities" rubber stamp set. It reminds me of the cover for Silence of the Lambs.
I was down on the field with the SF Giants before a recent game. I got down there because Tom Anderson sent out a tweet, and the marketing manager for the SF Giants responded and got us in! So, we were able to go anywhere and do anything before and during the game. It was great! I made full use of it.
I had my giant D800 Camera out there (see the Nikon D800 Review for more baseball photos from that evening), but I also had my Sony NEX-7. Tim came running by me at one point, so I quickly got in position and snapped away to grab this.

The big problem with shooting at F1.4 with a manual focus lens and a subject that barely ever stops moving is of course nailing focus. The depth of field is so narrow that here I got Tim's tail in focus and not his face. Which is a shame because everything else in this picture is exactly how I wanted it.
I like to dream
Yes, yes right between the sound machine
www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtkP5gTX6Hc
On a cloud of sight I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far, flies near, to the stars away from here
Well you don't know what we could find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
Well you don't know what we could see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl, look inside girl
Let the sound take you away
Last night I held Aladdin's lamp
So I wished that I could stay
Before the thing could answer me
Well someone came and took the lamp away
I looked around a lousy can was all I found
The International Space Station passes to the south of the UK on December 20th with Tim Peake on board. This was the first visible pass due to cloud cover.
The scientific name of the Raccoon is Procyon lotor, and the last bit translates as washer. This is because Raccoons are supposed to wash their food but this appears to be incorrect. But they often search for food with their hands dipped in water so it does look like they are washing, just like this one. In fact, the way the animal is nonchalantly looking forwards makes it look more like hand-washing than searching for food. You would think it would be looking down if it was food-searching. The grey fur blended right in with the rocky shore but I managed a bit of isolation with his head against the water. I took the photograph at Ucluelet on Vancouver Island. It was early morning in poor light so I was on 1/640 at an incredible 16,000 ISO. PS The first part of the scientific name Procyon means "before the dog" as Raccoons are an early offshoot from the dog family.
