The Lake District, also commonly known as The Lakes or (particularly as an adjective) Lakeland, is a mountainous region in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous not only for its lakes, forests and mountains (or fells), but also for its associations with the early 19th century poetry and writings of William Wordsworth and the other Lake Poets.
Historically shared by the counties of Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire, the Lake District now lies entirely within the modern county of Cumbria. All the land in England higher than three thousand feet (914,4 m) above sea level lies within the National Park, including Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. It also contains the deepest and longest lakes in England, Wastwater and Windermere, respectively.

Noted that Thomas was at Butterley for three days between Xmas and New Year but everyday was horrible weather wise (apart from Monday but I was otherwise engaged).
Yesterday was the last chance to go and get some photos of what could be the best tilt/shift subject ever. Unfortunately, the weather conditions and lighting are completely wrong for it to be convincing but I was standing in the cold for ages so I'm bloody well going to upload some shots - even if they aren't great. I'll wait until summer when he's back again and do better next time! (where have I heard that before!!!)
I think they look quite nice and wintery though!

Update: I finally finished the lens.
Here are two 200 % crops from this photo made with a ghetto DIY tilt-and-shift lens.
The plane of focus is such, that the pallets leaning against a tree at the far left and highlighted part of the ladder are in focus.
one exposure, 3 strobes: 580 near CR bounced, 430 CL soft box, 430 CR bounced. all were at high enough powers.
shifted down and right
shot with a 5d mkii and a 24mmTS-e mkii with a 1.4 extender
Update: I finally finished the lens.
This is what you get, when you give a screwdriver and a faulty lens to a master of science in engineering. A useless pile of fine mechanics that is no longer in working condition.
I've had an AF Nikkor 35 mm f/2 D sitting on my shelf for a long time. Sitting, because this lens suffers from the common oil-on-diaphrgram problem, and the aperture is sticky.
I decided to a) see what's inside the lens, and b) try to make a DIY tilt-and-shift lens.
