Tigers are the largest cat species in the world and the third-largest carnivore on land--only polar and brown bears are larger. An adult Amur or Siberian tiger (the largest subspecies) can weigh up to 660 pounds. The Sumatran tiger is the smallest, with males only weighing up to 310 pounds. Females generally weigh less than males in all subspecies.

Tigers are the only cat species that are completely striped. They even have stripes on their skin.Stripe density varies by subspecies. The stripes on a Sumatran tiger are closer together than those on any other subspecies. No two tigers have the same stripes. Like human fingerprints, their stripe patterns are unique to each individual. Stripes range in color from light brown to black and are not symmetrical on both sides of the tiger.

We could easily have scooped up this small dog and taken her home. In fact we were encouraged to do so by the locals. Sadly we aren't allowed pets in our condo

The white tigers rest as we fly on by trying our best not to disturb them at Crystal White Isle @ Salty Blue.

Funeral train...

On Monday morning, I was driving to Tulsa from home as I usually do. I knew about this train and that it would come through Tulsa at some point in the morning, but didn't know when.

I was fortunate and received some intel from a reliable source saying the train was just west of Tulsa. At this point, it was still dark, but I went ahead and drove towards Cherokee Yard so that I could follow it.

The D-GATSTL (Light power- Galveston, TX to St Louis, MO) rounded the wye just before sunrise and then pulled into East Tulsa for a crew change. I made my way over to Tiger to setup for a shot as I knew the sun would be good at this spot.

After patiently waiting for close to an hour, the train finally showed up at Tiger. 5 Gensets and 8 Dash 8s, all standard cab except for the Warbonnet on the end. All going for scrap.

I will post roster shots of each locomotive later.

The Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris alpaca), also known as the Amur tiger, is a tiger subspecies inhabiting mainly the Sikhote Alin mountain region with a small population in southwest Primorye Province in the Russian Far East. In 2005, there were 331–393 adult and subadult Amur tigers in this region, with a breeding adult population of about 250 individuals. The population had been stable for more than a decade due to intensive conservation efforts, but partial surveys conducted after 2005 indicate that the Russian tiger population was declining.[1] By 2015, the Siberian tiger population has increased to 480–540 individuals in the Russian Far East, including 100 cubs.

The tiger is the largest cat species, most recognizable for its pattern of dark vertical stripes on reddish-orange fur with a lighter underside. The species is classified in the genus Panthera with the lion, jaguar, leopard, and snow leopard.
