I always forget to take pictures during the group. Heres the after shot with carriers to pack away, toys to tidy and vacuuming to do!
Our master bedroom closet was beginning to feel like it was closing in on me, with piles of clothes tossed here and there and quite a few things that needed to be passed on. So, in a sudden surge of energy, I tackled the worst of it, and feel much more comfortable in this space now. Yay for getting things done!
This hand saw model is by no means unusual. It is not unusually tidy either.
This Atkins no 64 straightback hand saw is in many ways a typical example of the kind of vintage hand saw you might find in Finland. The brand is seldom seen but the condition is typical.
The saw has been left idling in a shed for many years, subjected to moisture and dust. As seems to be the case with Atkins handles in our climate, the handle has cracked. I don't know why this is common on Atkins handles when Disston's seldom suffer from the same issues. I wonder if Atkins made the screw holes too tight on the handles.
Anyway, this saw is far from useless. It still has a good plate depth, the steel is tough - just as Atkins saw plates always are. It does have some pitted areas but nothing interfering with the strength of the tooth line of plate.
This saw also has a very unusual secondary etch. The etch says:
"Expressly made form Emil Lesch Helsingfors Finland".
Emil Lesch was the owner of a hardware store in downtown Helsinki, so it is evident that Atkins made a batch of saws for this company and shipped them off to Helsinki. The previous owner is a farmer living just outside Helsinki, so after the saw was sold it has stayed with one and now two owners.
