Most birds look sweet and cuddly when they preen, but not a Bald Eagle. This parent is sitting high in a Cypress tree near it’s nest in the morning sun guarding the eaglets.
Little Oakley keeps his room nice and tidy...I wish my grandsons could take some lessons :-) (One of the many outtakes from my last children's book "Oakley the Squirrel: The Search for Z")
Trichonephila edulis with past meal trash, lined up in little packages, neat and tidy.
I learned that the scientific name of this spider celebrates its culinary merits.
And that French naturalist Jacques Labillardiere bestowed the name in 1799 after seeing the spiders roasted and eaten in New Caledonia. Other species of Trichonephila are eaten in Thailand, served raw as well as cooked. Also in New Guinea, where they’re fire-roasted.
I believe this female is gravid.

It was wonderful to see this cob Mute swan fussing on his nest! Taken through reeds, it isn't brilliant though!
