Taken a during a recent storm to hit the east coast and nationwide generally. Forecasters predicted that the highest tidal surge for sixty years would hit the east coast on Thursday. Decided to head for Seaham early Friday morning as the surge would still be high and coincided with a day off. I stood on the cliff that overlooks the harbour with the remote shutter attached. The next hour was spent stood in freezing temperatures and gale force winds watching the spectacle. Perfect start to a days leave!

A little mist floating around too! Great place to pay a visit too if your in the area and lots to see including the Shamrock which is the only fully-restored ketch-rigged Tamar sailing barge in the world. A little Cafe also for a cream tea and Gardens and woodland to see too.

Though the sky didn't colour up much [just a hint of under-lighting on the clouds] the water left by the ebbing tide had pooled nicely. Pre-dawn shots from my local beach at Sandsend more about composition than light, unfortunately!
This is a photo of patterns in the sand on the edge of a tidal pool at Mavillette Beach. The image has been mirrored and copied to be symmetrical.

Yes, it is a rock. Look how the sand and water are being pulled around the rock though. I love the motion in this shot.

Lindisfarne on Holy Island is reached via a causeway from the mainland which at high tide is under water. Pilgrims walk across the sandbanks barefoot following a line of poles for guidance but we cycled across on the road along with the traffic.
