As an experiment, Ryan took a tick and put it in a specimen jar. It exploded into a whole bunch of eggs. We are still waiting for them to hatch.

Our Daily Challenge 9th -15th July : Gadget

These are so simple and yet so effective.

When I smoked rollups I used to make a really thin ciggy and burn the ticks bum, but this is so much easier.

The dogs I have at present don't seem to get so many as my terrier Buster did.

She's off to meet her new "owners" in a few minutes. I hope they like her.

I picked up a hitchhiker at Point Sal. Looks like a common dog tick.

Festival of Fantasy Parade. I really love this part of the parade, cause now I understand why Captain Hook was afraid, he was lucky to only lose a hand.

Amblyomma sp. - i have a feeling this may be a tick nymph or larva and not a genuine chigger, but i use the term as a catchall for any of the tiny Acari who have the same effect. found my pants legs covered in these, what look like moving tiny specks to the bare eye, both yesterday and today after a woods/field walk.

I found this tick at my home.

Tick season is generally associated, but not restricted, to warm weather. Ticks generally live in tall grass and wooded areas and attach themselves to a host somewhere where it is warm & relatively hairless. Tick borne diseases can be permanently disabling and, therefore, the sooner a tick is discovered & removed, the less risk to your dog: dogs.about.com/od/dogandpuppyhealth/a/ticksondogs.htm

In spite of the cooler weather, a tick attached itself to Jersey during a walk in the woods:

Top: Tick attached to the top of Jersey’s neck & tick being removed using a Tick Key (my preferred tool for removing ticks).

Bottom: Top & bottom view of the removed tick.

Daily tick checks are the best way to protect you and loved ones from ticks and the diseases they carry. Inspect your entire body in front of a mirror. For more information on ticks, visit nysipm.cornell.edu/whats-bugging-you/ticks.

Eeeek, I found this guy crawling on me when I came inside. Now I can stop itching!

Ixodes sp. (Acari, Ixodidae). Body length: 2,8 mm.

Every time I go out to the wild, always meet them. It is very common here in Hungary, no excursions without tick attack on me. This specimen has closed its legs when I fixed the leaf with a clamp, but then stayed quiet so I managed to do the stacking sequence.

Our vet has moved onto the rare disease transmitted by ticks: Lyme Disease, Query Fever, and Ehrlichia. This is a poster produced by the company Frontline, whose product we use to protect andy against ticks. But we found a tick on Andy on the 9th.

The symptoms do not quite seem to match but apparently these tick born blood infections present all sorts of symptoms so it is worth a try. Andy is being given Doxycycline, the most famous medicine for treating these things.

But id rather deal with some potently dangerous ticks than inconsiderate asses at work.

This one was rather fast as well . 72 degrees cloudy .

This is the last shot with the standard 55 mm lens without the 10 x magnifying lens.
