This is David Isaiah Lambert. He is 13 years old. He has MEN2b (multiple endocrine neoplaysia) and MTC (medullary thyroid cancer) and Megacolon. He suffered many years before diagnosis. He was a failure to thrive infant with severe constipation. He also had RSV twice as an infant. He developed 8 teeth before he was 8 months old, they were all removed by the time he was 3. The rest of them were crowned. He just could not absorb vitamins and minerals. He was tested for Celiac, Cystic Fibrosis, Hirschprungs and many other things. He loves to play baseball, he is actually a pretty good pitcher. As he got older he just got weaker and weaker. I believe with alot of love and support he will play again.
He was diagnosed right before his 13th birthday June 2012. One month later he had his thyroid and the cancer removed.. Had his disease been recognized sooner he may have never developed the cancer. We are now trying to get back to some type of normal.. whatever that is. I dont know if he has ever had a day where he really felt good. I am thankful for MDA Houston and his endocrinologists Dr. Khateeb and Dr. Waguespack. . Many thanks to all who recognize and support rare diseases. I am praying all will be cured.
David would like to speak to other teens ot young adults who are in a situation similar to his.. look him up on FB. I'm sure he would be glad to have some new friends.

I went to the doctor today. Turns out that my thyroid may be causing a lot more things to go wrong, or there could be other things wrong with me. I gave my blood to be tested. Go back on Wed. next week to see what the test results are. Isn't it enough it makes me fat, skin dry/itchy, hair fall out, and my neck always swollen? It is so not fair.

A 23 yo female presented with palpitation.
Palpitation for 3 days and fever (reaching 39C at home). Weight loss of 24kg (90 to 66) and fatigue in the past three months.
ROS: hair loss, heat intolerance, tremor, inability to close her eyes properly, irritability and anxiety.
PMH and medications: ??
PSH: had urgent C-section 5 months ago at 6 months (neonatal death).
Allergies: none.
Family history: her sister got hypothyroidism, and her mother has diabetes.
Social history: she is a housewife, married since 6 years with 2 children.
Vital Signs:
T: 37 C
HR: 140, strong and regular.
RR: 18
BP: 154/75
O2 saturation: 97% in room air.
She was able to speak full sentences, not sweating or gasping for air. Cooperative and alert to place, time and person.
Lungs are clear to auscultation.
Pulse is present and strong, regular.
Cardiovascular exam: Clear.
Thyroid exam:
Skin: warm, moist and smooth.
Hands: sweaty, no clubbing, no onycholysis, there is a tremor.
Eyes: widening of the palpebral fissures, positive lid lag.
Neck: swelling in the midline (Goiter), moving with swallowing water, bruit present.
Lower leg: no pretibial myxoedema, intact ankle reflexes.

this past saturday, we took our cat harvey to the vet. turns out he has a tumor on his thyroid, and needs radioactive iodine treatment.
during the initial exam, while trying to calm him, harvey attacked my hand. later that night, it started swelling, turning pink and hot. i'd already begun antibiotics at that point, so there wasn't much i could do but watch it get worse.
this is how it looked last night, in the bathroom of the b&b where my mother and i stayed for her birthday (and the first anniversary of our reconciliation).
it's a little better today, but not much. i think it's one of those things that has to get worse before it gets better.
but hey. it looks like harvey is gonna be ok, and in the big scheme of things, it could be a whole heluva lot worse.

I'm Stephanie Lawton on Facebook, Stepha on Flickr (I think I have this photo up on Flickr already, but I'm not sure). This is Bastet (above) and Dru (below). Their sleeping habits are as weird as mine, and they'll forgive me pretty much anything as long as I'm willing to type one-handed when they want to be petted. Most of the time I have at least one cat napping within five feet of me, and even when I try to rub dander remover onto their fur in a completely fruitless attempt to assuage my new found allergies, they get over it almost immediately. They don't care whether I'm irritable or panicky or exhausted or brain-dead or incoherent or even conscious; they sleep with me or they sleep near me or they sleep on me or they purr at me until I pay attention to them.
