The b&w version of a former capture. The thunderstorm hunting during rain and wind took some hours before this stunning shot happened. In the center of the picture a huge lightning evolved accompanied by a loud thunder next to the Rieden monument, a Chapel of Maria.

I have been wanting to photograph a thunderstorm above a tulip field for years, and this year (2021) I finally succeeded.

I love to see these huge storms form. They usually start on the horizon and billow up to 30 or 40 thousand feet.

They look so peaceful up top but below is a powerful storm that can cause severe damage. It really shows the many sides of mother nature.

Today was forecast to be raining and thunder. I wish rain and thunder could look like this back home, but it seems it's going to be another beach day!

Summer 2015

May's unsettled conditions have largely prevailed to date. However, the rain is needed..

There was a lot of rumbling a few hours ago, but so far no rain or lightening.

On a night when I've never seen so many tripods and cameras on the beach, finally most people made their way back to their cars, but I just couldn't leave as the sky kept shouting for one last photo. This is for Anthony, who was just along the coast at Rhossili, I know he loves Bruce Springsteen, even though my version on my playlist is sung by Badly Drawn Boy.

Thunder and lightning: It is impossible for Juliana and Max to fall asleep when there are bad storms at night.

We just had one at bedtime last night. Short lived though. Wish we got more rain!

Monsoon season will come to and end soon. A concerto grosso

undefinable, unimaginable. Surrounded by the light, the calm, rolling thunder, and then the explosion.

The screen door slams

Mary' dress waves

Like a vision she dances across the porch

As the radio plays

Roy Orbison singing for the lonely

Hey that's me and I want you only

Don't turn me home again

I just can't face myself alone again

Don't run back inside

Darling you know just what I'm here for

So you're scared and you're thinking

That maybe we ain't that young anymore

Show a little faith there's magic in the night

You ain't a beauty but hey you're alright

Oh and that's alright with me

You can hide 'neath your covers

And study your pain

Make crosses from your lovers

Throw roses in the rain

Waste your summer praying in vain

For a saviour to rise from these streets

Well now I'm no hero

That's understood

All the redemption I can offer girl

Is beneath this dirty hood

With a chance to make it good somehow

Hey what else can we do now ?

Except roll down the window

And let the wind blow

Back your hair

Well the night's busting open

These two lanes will take us anywhere

We got one last chance to make it real

To trade in these wings on some wheels

Climb in back

Heaven's waiting on down the tracks

Oh-oh come take my hand

We're riding out tonight to case the promised land

Oh-oh Thunder Road oh Thunder Road

Lying out there like a killer in the sun

Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run

Oh Thunder Road sit tight take hold

Thunder Road

Well I got this guitar

And I learned how to make it talk

And my car's out back

If you're ready to take that long walk

From your front porch to my front seat

The door's open but the ride it ain't free

And I know you're lonely

For words that I ain't spoken

But tonight we'll be free

All the promises'll be broken

There were ghosts in the eyes

Of all the boys you sent away

They haunt this dusty beach road

In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets

They scream your name at night in the street

Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet

And in the lonely cool before dawn

You hear their engines roaring on

But when you get to the porch they're gone

On the wind so Mary climb in

It's town full of losers

And I'm pulling out of here to win

This moose was running across the field in front of me when he stopped and took a look at me ... fortunately his desire to join the bulls across the road was greater than his desire to explore my presence! As big as they are they are amazingly graceful and beautiful to watch when running. (early morning light distorts the colors a bit)

THANKS!

At night I go back all alone

And I'm not sure what I will find...

With thunder showers forecast I didn't feel the need to sit under a tall pine tree and fish so we jumped in the hoopty and drove a few miles to visit the Bridgeport Covered Bridge across the South Fork of the Yuba River...Built in 1862 utilizing a unique combination truss and arch construction, it is one of the oldest housed spans in the Western United States and the longest single span, wooden covered bridge in the world...

Storm Coming! Time to get back in the car before the rains!

Shooté depuis ma fenêtre ! Bel orage hier soir ;-)

Sony 135mm 1.8 GM.

This fast moving Thunder Cloud caught up the sun much faster than I thought, so I could not reach to the spot that I wanted, I had to stop and find the best possible place. For Landscape Photography the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM is very sharp, with excellent contrast and colors.

The rain poured relentlessly, transforming the once peaceful field into a muddy quagmire. In the midst of this tempest, a prize bull named Thunder found himself in a precarious situation.

Thunder was a magnificent creature, known far and wide for his strength and beauty, but on that stormy night, he had wandered too close to the edge of the field, drawn by the tempting aroma of fresh grass. As he stepped forward, his hooves sank deep into the muddy ground, trapping him in a sticky quagmire. Panic set in as the bull struggled to free himself, but the more he fought, the deeper he sank.

The farmer, alerted to his cries, waded through the muck and tried to pull the massive beast out but his hooves remained stubbornly planted in the mud. Undeterred, the farmer called for reinforcements, rallying his neighbours to join the rescue mission.

A group of determined individuals gathered, their united strength matched only by their concern for Thunder's well-being. They heaved and strained, yet Thunder remained trapped.

Just when their hope began to waver, a ray of light pierced through the storm clouds, casting a glimmer of hope upon the weary faces. Thunder, sensing the change in the atmosphere, summoned his last reserves of strength. With one final surge of power, he lifted his massive body, hooves emerging from the mire. A collective cheer erupted from the farmers, as they led him to the safety of the barn.

Thunder is good, thunder is impressive; but it is lightning that does the work.

Mark Twain

A piece of theatre history - the Thunder Run, superseded by recorded sound effects many decades ago. To replicate thunder a cannon ball would be dropped into the wooden channel which rolled rapidly down (here right to left) would drop down (extreme left) and then roll more gently back along the lower box. This one survives complete above the stage at Her Majesty's Theatre in the Haymarket, London. Designed by C J Phipps and Romaine Walker in a French C18th style. This is one of the West End's finest theatres, wide with excellent sightlines and supremely elegant. Built as a replacement to earlier theatres on this site since 1705, the current theatre was designed by C J Phipps and opened in April 1897. The building is grade 2* listed and in 1986 the record-breaking run of "The Phantom of the Opera" began. The name reverted to His Majesty's after the coronation of King Charles III in 2023, and it is part of LW Theatres Group.

Dark, swirling storm clouds dominate the sky, casting dramatic shadows over a vast, open field with hay bales scattered across it. A lonely road cuts through the landscape, leading the eye toward the horizon and the approaching tempest.
